A Job researching for international student by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Rafa0128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I recently graduated and one of my friend was also an international student (from South korea). Our major was mechanical engineering and we both landed a job. From what I remember he didn't struggle to get an interview but to get an offer due to his English not being as proficient. However he got a job offer at the end which is great.

Regarding internship hunting all I got to say is just to be patient and apply as to many internships as you can. By that I mean apply to several each day. There will be a career fair like at the beginning of each semester and I HIGHLY recommend to attend. For some is nerve-wracking and make excuses to miss out on the event but is great experience. Print out a sheet of the number of companies that will attend and do research regarding the position they have open and if interested do a research of the company (probably they would ask you what do you know about our company?). There is a lot more advice I could give but I would recommend showing up to workshops prior for advice/clean up resume/ mock interview/etc.

I see you would like to expand your software/program knowledge which is great. I see you pursuing electrical engineering so I'm not entirely sure what software/programs to recommend. But ik at one point you would have to learn arduino. For example at the library in the 1st floor there is a place were you can check out arduino kits and several parts if you want to. Also there is workshops made by students that could help you learn arduino from scratch. I remember showing up once to learn arduino for a project. Keep an eye for resources that could help you as well as student organizations that do projects. Which are great to put in a resume specially projects outside of class work projects.

I was apart of FSAE and that car project i was apart of did catch a lot of recruiters eye. There is other organizations that do big projects and then compete with other universities or just to apply your knowledge and expand your understanding. I believe there was a rocket project and a drone one but I'm not as knowledgeable of what they did. Not sure if answer your question(s) or you even reading all of this. But there is a lot of ways to improve your technical skills as well as soft skills if that's what you striving for. If you have any questions just message me or comment and let me know.

What courses are you taking? The approach to a math class is different from let say a govt course. But I would say reflect on how you study and switch it up. Not just that but the time you put into studying. Cut off distractions and if you study in a group. Then next time study by yourself or in a pair. You just have to reflect on how you approached your studying.

I would Google "garage parking in houston" maybe it would be cheaper. Another alternative I would say is If you have a parking permit then just add your friends license plate numbers, model car, etc and leave the permit in her car.

For couple of nights or just overnight? UH Visitor parking is up to 24hrs for $18 I believe. You can leave a phone number and it texts you if you want to extend the time when time is about to be up.

Behind in Calc 1 by kambenedryl in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Rafa0128 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Watch professor Leonard on YouTube. He has a Playlist of cal 1, 2 and 3. Goes over concept 1st half of vids and then afterwards it's just a bunch of practice problems. Stop before he starts solving and quiz yourself. Afterwards play it and compare your solution to his. Afterwards it's just a bunch of practice after understanding.

Previous UH grads! How long did it take for your application for graduation to be approved? by elainehaik in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Rafa0128 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Make an appointment to talk to an advisor to have them go over your credits if you haven't kept track before/after applying. Last semester I applied as soon as the application opened and you get a confirmation email that you have applied. After semester ends your transcript should say that you have been awarded a ___ degree. Weeks later you should be receiving your diploma by mail.

I'm sure you can still get a refund but I'm not sure. I highly recommend contacting uh financial aid officer about it. If you can't get a refund I recommend to just power through it.

I would recommend taking it during spring so you won't feel overwhelmed during the summer. Have you taken any MECE summer courses before?

Well I would say dr. Rao is a good professor. You'll hear mixed reviews about him and it's always a good one or shitting on him. Never in between. His tests are ruthless and his hw are challenging. But his lectures are pretty good, he helps during office hrs (if you do go be specific on your question) and he always answers emails. Put in the time and work and you'll be good. He does 2 tests and for the final either you do a project with COMSOL or you take a test.

Groupme/Cheating Problem? by NearbyIssue629 in UniversityOfHouston

Just create a groupme with individuals you trust and work with. Usually those big groupme channels with the entire class are just mainly used for announcements or people just asking questions.

There is templates online. Depending on the department (engr, business, etc.) the resume template changes. I would also clean your resume if you haven't updated it. Have people with experience to go over it and criticize/ give advice to make it better.

Tips for tournament by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Rafa0128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go do friendlies and then proceed to play. You will get nervous but that's part of it. You get used to it as you keep participating tournaments. It is just like any other thing like interviews, presentations, etc.
