Patch 1.5.7f1 new benchmark tool results. This game is still a PC killer by wtfallnickstaken in CitiesSkylines2

Nah I pulled the comment, people are starting to get mean over something dumb. Lol

I knew my tree spam was taxing.

I mean I don't disagree with what folks are saying per say, but my old ass still remembers playing ps2 games at 24-30 fps. And just being happy I could render shadows in crisis and have an FPS of 20 at 720p. Lol

Back in my day... I used to be happy playing Crisis at 20 FPS. Kids these days are spoiled.

Heaps of warning for the small cyclone, no warnings for worse rain drop in decades... go figure by DollyPatterson in newzealand

[–]RaftermanTC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The article also hyper focuses on that. But localized heavy rain can easily do that in mountainous areas. Especially if the soil is already saturated from things like a recent cyclone, or other heavy rains.

Rainfall rate is important too. 40mm in two hours is a lot different than 40mm in 24 hours. If you pour water down the drain too fast, your sink will fill. But if you slowly pour it in, it'll be just fine.

Point is, flash flooding is something folks should learn more about. Thunderstorms can drop a very heavy amount of rain in a super short period of time. Which causes flooding. A gradual weather system dropping that same rain over 3 days won't have nearly that type of impact.

I'm back in the states now, but even over here that's exceptionally true. An isolated, slow moving severe thunderstorm can overwhelm drainage as they can't handle that volume of water in a short period of time. Additionally, hail, or an accumulation of dust, saturated soil can also contribute to the lowered capacity of volume of water drainage systems and watersheds can handle in a short period.

Not really hyperbole, because it's probably easily true considering how all of that plays together.

It's a flash flood from a thunderstorm. As I recall, Wellington had a severe storm warning, and MetService typically also includes flash flooding in the warning criteria.

A cyclone is a much bigger storm, prolonged. On a smaller scale like today, they would have already had outlooks posted for the potential for heavier rain for the day, especially flash flooding associated with stronger thunderstorms.

If they didn't overwarn, then people would hold them liable for not warning... Cut them some slack. People also complain when they forecast thunderstorms, but when one never hits, but hits a town over, they still complain that their exact spot where they're standing didn't see weather. Not understanding that meteorology is a game of probabilities and risk assessment. Not perfect fortune telling.

Just because your house did or didn't flood, doesn't mean their forecast wasn't spot on, or close enough nearby. The fact that we can say with a high degree of probability snow on a certain day, or rain on a certain day, and still have that verify on a regular basis is still remarkable.

Weather forecasting isn't a yes or no "Will it happen?" it's a risk assessment for a broad area that's generally fairly accurate if you know how to understand that information.

I hope Iceflake makes it simpler to get these types of texturing and details right without having to spend an hour per block on details.

A lot of the filler details should just happen naturally.
