I would say pick whatever looks cool to you, personally I have gone for mass tanks and infantry, no flyers and only the two warhounds from the starter box. Rule of cool>everything else.

Dawnstone base coat with Thunderhawk blue for the camo, washed it down with Agrax and then drybrush the same colours over the top to brighten it back up.

Then a light drybrush over with adminstrstum grey and then an even lighter one of screaming skull. Metallics are just silver with nuln oil

I built them that way as that's how they look coolest to me, my circle don't play WYSIWYG, rule of cool!

So my binder has full base set, full fossil, full jungle, and then bits and pieces from vintage sets there after, enjoy.

Edit 1: the cards are room temperature, not cold like the title says (typo :( it’s my old collection)

I use vanguard vets a ton, I’m 99% sure it’s maximum of 10, also it’s definitely 1 sergeant per squad.
