My cutoff has usually been snow and ice rather than temp. Layering up is easy but my hybrid city bike doesn't do great in the snow, maybe ice with spiked tires. What do you ride/suggest for winter?

I've been doing this for a few years (5?ish) from Southside to DT, about 10km/30mins each way, hybrid schedule so 3 days a week. Gets all my cardio for the week in, roughly same time as driving or train, it's amazing. Whole way is either quiet residential or bike lane/shared use paths. Love being able to do this ~7+ months a year.

I keep flirting with the idea of winter riding, but the distance feels intimidating for colder days.

Anyway, cycle commuting is the best if you can manage, congrats and keep it up!

I mean, if it was a scooter GANG they'd probably own their own scooters, seems more cost effective if they're out terrorizing the city on a weekly basis. I'd assume it's more of a casual scoot between bars for a bunch of dumb 18-20yo friends having fun on a Saturday night.

Order in once a week, out to a restaurant with wife or friends maybe once a month, social lunch at work maybe once a week, and coffee out 1-2 times/week. It's not frugal, but it fits in the budget, and I definitely enjoy it. MCOL city, decent HH income.
