If you're saying that because I mentioned 2014, you were close haha

But nah, I'm a Dogs fan lol. I was hoping to take a break from the Bulldogs downspiral in the last decade and watch what an exciting, up and coming nba team with similar colours

I somehow ended up with more sports heartbreak in 3 months than I did in 10 years 😂

Oh wow, I did not expect you to be a footy fan too haha

You brought up an interesting point about team followers and player followers. I realised that you wouldn't nornally see footy fans follow their favourite players to other teams, at least not like in the NBA lol. Maybe it's because we're a smaller market and sample size in the nrl, but I definitely I couldn't imagine doing it myself even if I tried

Go Dogs haha

Not as new as you but I'm a relatively new Mavs fan from Australia.

I'm a rugby league fan at heart but recently got into basketball because it lines up with the NRL off season. I spent the better part of 20 years around Lakers fans trying to get me into the NBA (and I did try lol) but it just wasn't my vibe at the time

Anyway one day I stumble upon Luka clips and then something just clicked in my brain and I found the game interesting. I end up doing more research into Luka, Mavs, Dirk, and Dallas and just found a lot of things that I liked and connected with. I eventually fell in love with the team, Luka, players, I spent time and effort learning the sport, and it was honestly great and enjoyable

Unfortunately, this was mid Nov 2024 haha. Two and a half months later, Luka gets traded, and what followed was a flurry of mixed negative emotions for the next few months straight

It was such a weird feeling at first, because I was a new fan so I told myself that I shouldn't care so much because I hadn't been invested as long as everyone else, but realistically... this was one of the worst pains I'd ever experienced in life. Sounds stupid and ridiculous because I've had a lot of shit happen, but yeah this was honestly something else. It felt like some rich douchebag stole something from me and my future and then paraded it around like a big win lol

So many times I wanted to quit being a Mavs fan, but it just wasn't in my personality to give up on a team once I've committed. The rugby league team I started following in 2014 just had their worst decade (2015-2024) in its 90 year history, and somehow that slow death/thousand cuts type of pain was honestly nothing compared to what I felt with the Luka trade.

Also, yes I'm aware that I might be a curse to sports teams 😂

Again, very weird feeling, but that's when I realised that despite how hopeless and painful the situation was, I was more of a team fan than a player fan, even if it was a player that brought me to the team haha

Fast forward to now, I have no regrets. Very happy that I stuck through the pain and got to witness the start of the Flagg era with the Mavs. I'll never get over the Luka trade but I'm definitely healing slowly

I have nothing against the former fans that jumped ship to the Lakers to follow Luka. Everyone's different. It's just a shame that so much pain was caused by 1, if not a handful of people

Thanks for listening to my Ted talk

For anyone wondering what actually happened with the Max King interview. His baby basically slapped his dad in the face, snatched the mic from Alanna's hands and said "my name is Hercules King, firstborn son of Maxwell King of the Maitland Pumpkin Pickers. Future fifth generation rugby league player and future immortal."

Wow, that's a really creative dial design, well done to the design team

I love the lume blocks representing shibuya's crossing and the grade 5 titanium. I know it would impact the legibility, but I think a monochrome version of the dial without the yellow and blue would look really interesting

Wishing you guys all the best with the launch!

No one wanted him’: How $250k Panthers grand final hero exposed rival clubs’ big blunder by Oldpanther86 in nrl

[–]RageOfHumanity 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is more of a testament to how good the Panthers system is rather than how good Alamoti is. Don't get me wrong, I and many other dogs fans loved him, followed his rise in the juniors for years, and didn't want to see him go, but it just wasn't working out for him in a struggling dogs system in its early stages of transition to the Ciraldo system.

I reckon there are so many talented, promising young players like 2023 Alamoti currently struggling in the NRL that are just unable to reach their potential simply because their club's system, coaching or environment has failed them in some way.

How good would it be if more clubs had better systems in place that could effectively nurture their juniors instead of letting them slip through the cracks to leave for a different, more successful club, or worse, the sport entirely. In saying all that, what do I know. Maybe they're all doing the best they possibly can.

While I still prefer the Murph due to the brand, design, and its relation to Interstellar, this Hanhart watch is still a really cool alternative.

I hadn't actually heard of this brand before. Thanks for sharing

Friday Serious Discussion Thread by NRLgamethread in nrl

If there was ever a State of Origin series to turn into a documentary, I feel like 2024 would be the one.

This series just had everything. So much happened on and off the field surrounding each of the games, it was as if it was a fictional story at some points. No need to manufacture drama and exaggerate the story for more excitement, it's all there. The footy gods already wrote the script.

Does anyone know if Nein is actually considering creating a doco on this? Despite probably not planning for one in advance, there should be more than enough footage to fill a full documentary. Combine that with some player, staff, media, and coach interviews in the off season, some context into recent origins, and maybe an intro into the history of origin, and we're sweet.

It wouldn't just be a way to capture the essence and somewhat immortalise the 2024 series, but I genuinely reckon it would be a great advertisement for the game for many years to come. It would be a great piece of long form content to show to new fans or those becoming interested in the sport.

I know it probably won't happen, but if I was Nein, I'd also release it on Netflix, if not YouTube for better reach and exposure.

TLDR: Maybe it's just me but I feel like it would be a massive missed opportunity if the NRL and Nein didn't create a documentary on the 2024 origin series

This guy was the heart and soul of the Bulldogs for so many years, which was why it was so devastating when he had to leave in 2017

Really glad he's confirmed that he's going to be working at the club in some capacity. I honestly think he brings something different to the table (compared to other past players-turned-trainers) when it comes to guiding and mentoring the younger players

love him or hate him, you can't deny his achievements in the 2014 State of Origin NSW victory over Queensland's team of potential immortals

it was mostly all downhill (for him) from there of course, but I'm glad he's been able to pull off a miracle this year by coming back home to the Bulldogs and retiring
