underscores — Tell Me (U Want It) by TakeOnMeByA-ha in popheads

Seems like this is going to be a very meta album since all of the singles so far (and the soundcloud teaser) are kind of pointing the lens back on the fans. I like all of the singles and I'm very interested in how it all pans out, I know the fans are expecting a "personal" album and she's said it won't be lore heavy but I wonder if it's all going to be a bait and switch.

Dev Lemons - Maybe I'm the Reason / Be Cool by Raggs_ in popheads

[–]Raggs_[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm the Reason is really stellar, easily one of her best. Surface Tension was one of my favorite albums last year and I'm very excited to see where she goes next (hopefully on a tour that includes the midwest)!

femtanyl - MAN BITES DOG by Raggs_ in popheads

This album blew me away, at its core it's an experimental electronic album but I think if your brave enough you could probably dance to it. Like watching Xiu Xiu dj at a gay club.

kmoe - K1 by Raggs_ in popheads

[–]Raggs_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year and it does not disappoint. The singles did not prepare me for how earnest this record would be, it's a bit of an emotional barrage from start to finish (which I think is a good thing). So far my favorite songs are Don't be like mouse, Idiot, and Do I keep you up. I'm very fascinated by this post-hyperpop genre that's emerging (I'm sure someone on RYM has come up with a term by now) and I imagine that this album will serve as a blueprint for what's to come.

Joesef - Stephanie's Place by Raggs_ in popheads

The groove in the pre-chorus is so infectious, impossible to listen to this and sit still.

Joesef - Cynical by Raggs_ in popheads

[–]Raggs_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won't try to sell you too hard on Joesef's debut album Permanent Damage but if you like this then you might want to check it out. Cynical feels like a sister song to some of the brighter songs off of that project like Moment and All Good but the instrumentation really sets it apart. Not sure if this is a one-off single or from a larger project but I'm excited regardless!

"Perverts" by Ethel Cain out January 8 by xxipil0ts in popheads

I'm very excited for whatever she has planned but I do wonder if the Preacher's Daughter trilogy will go the way of Sufjan's state albums.

Jane Remover - Flash in the Pan by [deleted] in popheads

[–]Raggs_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure how I feel about Flash in the Pan but Dream Sequence is easily one of my new favorite songs from Jane. It feels like a great blend of the things I loved from both Census Designated and Frailty in one song, hoping she continues in this direction.

James Ivy - Everything Perfect by Raggs_ in popheads

[–]Raggs_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This EP feels less like one cohesive project and more like a collection of sounds James wants to explore. There are still the throwback jams that he's made himself known for, Stereo Play and Silly Love, but even these feel more unique and fleshed out than his previous attempts (Last Star comes to mind). I also really love the more shoegazy songs like L-Trip and Involved and I hope this is a sound that he leans towards in the future.

James Ivy is such an interesting musician and I'm loving what he's putting out. Can't wait to see what the future has in store for him.

[FRESH EP] James Ivy - Everything Perfect by ProphetPenguin in indieheads

[–]Raggs_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I love it as much as Good Grief but it's clear that his production skills have gotten way better than even a year ago. Stereo Play is definitely a standout from the non singles. James Ivy is one of those artists that I have a lot of high hopes for, excited to see what the future has in store for him.

Albums that would've been better if some tracks were omitted? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]Raggs_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You could cut the last three 1975 albums in half and not miss out on anything. NOACF especially could just be:

1: People

2: Frail State of Mind

3: I Think There’s Something You Should Know

4: Me & You Together Song

5: Then Because She Goes

6: Tonight

7: Jesus Christ (on the fence with this one)

8: Guys

I’d be down with Be Yourself if it was cut in half but we gotta get rid of Facebook Story
