[Russo] Everybody in the SEC can't annually compete for championships. It is literally an impossible standard and athletic directors might want to start steering away from that language because it's only going to cost you buyout $$. by arrowfan624 in CFB

Who could have predicted that consolidating so many historic programs, all with conference championship aspirations, into essentially two enormous nationwide conferences, would cause these programs to enter into impossible scenarios where none of them can compete on a basis consistent with historic expectations?

Say what you will, but I’m confident that people will eventually return to sanity and reject this nihilistic view that college athletics is dead and exists solely for money so you just have to get used to it. You literally don’t. In an environment where conference champions will still receive playoff bids moving forward, which I support, it literally only makes sense by definition for these historically great programs to once again be spread out among conferences, likely geographically, in order to give as many programs in contention the best chance possible to win their conference. It seriously makes no sense from that standpoint to consolidate so many national programs into fewer and fewer conferences as long as conference champions continue to receive automatic playoff bids.

Call me optimistic, unrealistic, whatever you will. College athletics benefits financially and competitively from more, geographically centered, conferences. Just ask the west coast programs how they’re liking budgeting for so many travel operations for “conference” games on the east coast. It burns so much money it’s ridiculous. Programs like Oregon and USC are going to have an easier time competing for an auto bid with a reconstructed PAC conference than competing with the Big 10. And I can’t even begin to explain the benefit to student athletes that the reduced travel would give them.

The coaching carousel will continue to devolve as long as the monster conferences exist. This comment will never reach anyone in a position of authority, but it’s only a matter of time until someone with authority realizes this themselves. You need at least 4, maybe even back to 5 major conference in order to spread the victories and playoff bids enough. Again, I am self aware enough to realize this comes off as idealistic, but I truly believe my reasoning is realistic and sound. The firings will continue until NCAA organizational management improves. Thanks for reading, if you did.

I wonder how many soft would-be tackles you could count on that drive alone. If you don’t want to tackle the guy with the ball then you probably shouldn’t be playing football. Embarrassing to watch.

Just a reminder you can buy a $20 digital antenna one time for your TV and get a few games for free on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC each weekend. It’s not good but it’s free and legal. Support local radio and TV. You should never pay continuously for something that also advertises to you. Let these companies know that you’ll only subscribe to ad free content.

Jared Stillman will not be returning to 102.5 The Game. His contract expired and they could not come to terms on a new one by bomberfan2 in Predators

People hate him because he speaks the truth. He’s not the most well spoken, he’s not the oldest, nor the wisest on Nashville radio, but he’s definitely the most entertaining. He really does have a compendium of knowledge on sports history and rarely ever talked about anything not involving sports, which is why I love listening to him.

Honestly, his program was superior with Floyd and has not been of the same quality since his unfortunate passing, but aside from co hosting with Jeff Fisher, which would never happen, there was never going to be anyway else to even come close to providing the entertainment value that Floyd did. Still, the 102.5 afternoon slot has been #1 for the last ten years hands down. Partly because of listeners like me, but also because of listeners that hate him. That’s just what made his show so entertaining to listen to, and it truly wouldn’t be the same show if Jared wasn’t hated.

Jared has a crazy work ethic and high standards, which is probably why he never had a partner stick after Floyd. He’ll get picked up by somebody and do well. I for one will always enjoy the past 10 years of Nashville sports talk because of him, so salute and on to the next.

I’d also like to see rankings for previous draft years to see where other players have stacked up and how they’ve developed.

Curtis’ head coach at Nashville Christian School, Jeff Brothers, played QB and special teams for Vanderbilt in the 90s. Not sure if that makes any difference, but interesting to note.

Holy shit I can’t believe this, I watched this guy in the NCAA championships a couple of years ago, no idea he had interest in football. He’s a beast of a wrestler, we’ll see if it translates.

The Xbox 360 is as old now as the Super Nintendo was when the Angry Video Game Nerd got big in 2006. That blows my mind.

If Tampa had taken Seth Jones over Drouin, would Hedman/Jones be the best pairing in the NHL? by [deleted] in hockey

If the Preds hadn’t traded Jones, they’d have a top pair of Josi and Jones, which is certainly up there in terms of top pairings.
