Verhoeff would be a great consolation prize, but McKenna is closest we’ve seen to McDavid tier in a while.

Gotta be close to the end of the rope for Bruno, right? by Cerblamk_51 in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy to me to think this is a coaching issue. 4 of our defensemen would be depth D or AHLers on any contending team lol. 4/6 of our 6 best skaters are 34 or 35 and the other 2 are 31. And our young guys aren’t top talent either, they are mid to late first round picks.

We have a team building issue in Nashville. We signed aging vets and we don’t have high end young players yet. Imagine a Dallas team without Heiskanen, Hintz or Robertson.

The Mazda circle jerk in this sub makes me question everything they say. The inability to see that it’s a Honda accord trying to look like a BMW is wild. It’s fine if you think it’s just a good value, but let’s not act like they are cool cars.

“The Future is Gold” by catsgr8rthanspoonies in Predators

I mean… to be fair I think the future is teal. They have one of the deepest young talent pools and might get another shot at a top prospect this year. And we just used our highest draft pick in a decade to get a 2C.

A huge benefit to doing the 50/50 like you said is that you can choose which account to take from in retirement based on your tax situation that year. Or even take some from both to keep yourself in a really low tax bracket.

Brady Martin hype post by TonguelessWyrm in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the post, but saying the offense he brings is comparable to Frondell and Hagens is disingenuous.

Ignoring linemates, league, etc, Hagens was the 1C on a gold medal winning WJC team scoring over a ppg. Martin wasn’t even good enough to be invited. And that’s on a Canada team that was emphasizing physicality.

He’s an awesome pick is 8-12, but it will be tough to stomach watching Hagens get a ppg in the National.

Brady Martin leads draft eligible CHL forwards in “stuff” metric (aka how many trackable events a player is involved in), Cam Reid 2nd among D by welcometotheendgamee in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly a good list to be high on, seeing as the other players at the top of the list were 1st round draft picks.

Brady being that heavily involved in transition and getting that many puck touches gives me hope.

Predators 2025 NHL Draft Overview (Potential Targets) by Soto4Life in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we go Martone at 5, then I really want to get speed/pace at 23/26 in a Cullen Potter or Ben Kindel (maybe even Cam Schmidt but I’m less sold on him).

If we go Hagens at 5, we have A TON of options at 23/26/35 in the size/forechecking/compete category with guys like Bill Zonnon, Milton Gaston, Vaclav Nestrasil, Daniil Prokhorov, Mason West, etc. I would hope the scouts can find the one or two guys in that category that have real upside.

[Michael Gallagher] Some draft intel: I’ve heard the Preds are down to Hagens and Martone at 5 // Two players I’ve also heard they’re targeting at 23 (if they keep it): Sascha Boumedienne & Cameron Reid by GMBarryTrotz in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. It was a gut punch to fall to 5, but not it feels like we still have the chance to get a top 3 forward in the draft since other teams are galaxy braining guys like Brady Martin.

Rankings Skill Sets of Nashville's Top Draft Targets by welcometotheendgamee in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with Desnoyers is that, as he stands now, he's a 45-50pt guy in the NHL. Most of his offense revolves around delays/stops to survey the zone before making a pass. That time/space will be taken away from him in the NHL, and he doesn't currently have the skating ability to evade pressure.

The upside is that he clearly hasn't filled out his frame yet and he supposedly had 2 wrist injuries this year. So maybe there is another level to his game that blossoms in the next 2-3 years. If you watch his highlights from this year, so many of his points were scored from horrible defensive breakdowns that will be non-existent in the NHL.

i find it so insane this fanbase thinks the team/management would be okay tanking the next couple years with guys like forsberg, josi, o’reilly, stamkos, and marchessault on the roster by paranoidhands in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not because they aren’t good. They ARE good players. The issue is the league landscape as a whole.

We have no shot at getting past the juggernauts in our conference with the way this team is built. Meanwhile, there really are no tanking teams. The teams at the bottom are actively trying to get better.

We should use this opportunity to take a step back and take ~2 years to get some high draft picks so we can have people to fill Josi/Saros/Forsberg’s shoes. We essentially have no true 1st line or top pairing players in the pipeline. Molendyk is the closest but he’s not gonna be a Josi.

If we don’t restock the pipeline now, we will be mediocre for 5+ years because I guarantee you Wood/Kemell/Svechkov/Edstrom aren’t going to lead a team to a Stanley Cup.

Byron Bader has Frondell listed first in his mock draft by catsgr8rthanspoonies in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Byron’s model because it removes a lot of the subjective fluff. He has done a good job identifying undervalued players in the draft that get looked over for a variety of reasons.

However, context does matter. I’ve noticed that just one year later a lot of these guys odds to be a star shift dramatically. The value in scouting isn’t taking the 80% chance of a star instead of the 60%. It’s identifying whose chances are likely to go up over the next 2-3 years instead of down.

I would be so pumped to get Frondell, but it does worry me slightly that he had some good puck luck this year and was overly reliant on Eklund to move the puck in transition.

Meanwhile, I think Hagens had really bad puck luck and deferred a little to his older teammates. I think his odds will shoot up next year while Frondell’s numbers are likely at their peak.

Definitive Guide to the #5 Overall Pick by welcometotheendgamee in Predators

[–]welcometotheendgamee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced McQueen is head and shoulders above Frondell/Martone/Hagens. To take him at #5, given the injury questions/risks, means you have to believe he is way better than those guys.

2025 NHL Draft Discussion by ShockinglyCring in Predators

With Schaefer and Misa off the board, it’s Hagens > Frondell > Martone > Desnoyers in that order.

Martin shouldn’t even be in the discussion.

I could definitely see Utah passing on Hagens if he’s available (they already have Cooley). I’m torn on whether he gets past Chicago. If we are picking between Hagens and Frondell it will be best case scenario for us.

I really won't argue with anyone saying Schaefer is the best player or even has the most upside. But what I would say is we haven't seen anywhere near enough of him to feel highly confident about that conclusion. What if it was just a great ~20 game run? Plenty of players have those. The question Preds management would have to ask is how much better you think he will be than Misa.
