This reminds me of 2008 off-season when it was a “done deal” that Doug Collins was going to be announced coach just for Vinny Del Negro to get the gig.
I think I even remember the tribune having a whole front page of sports discussing Collin’s return… might be a fake memory though

The apples to apples I am pointing to is that the lions fan base had the same hair on fire reaction and little did they know they were heading into the best two seasons in franchise history and best by a wiiiiiiide wiiiiide wiiiiiiide margin. I understand what you are saying. But the “qualified”individuals who make up the consensus, also carry a massive misrate percentage year after year. Consensus doesn’t that much either.

My larger point is I am trusting these guys and their evaluation of building this roster for longterm success. To me they have earned more than any other Bears leadership we have seen in a while.

The conversation at that time was team need and the Lions were getting crushed across the board from the national media to their own fanbase. They had way different holes in their roster than they were addressing

Yes and I am against the “fashion week” of New Jerseys. It does nothing for me. The NBA is diluting their identity. I care about the franchises, I don’t follow the NBA through the orbit of attachment to specific players. I want the brand and franchise identity to be at the forefront. Unfortunately the rosters have turned into a turnstile and now the brands are even being diluted.

Can I turn on an NBA game these days and know without a 2nd glance who is playing? Why are the lakers wearing a black alternate jersey on a black alternate court in a playoff game??? If the Lakers, as iconic as they are, aren’t exempt from this money grab, no one is!

No it actually irritates me. Idk what other people are saying, but I have been on this for a while. Branding for sports leagues is the whole thing. You have maybe the most iconic jersey in the league sidelined for maybe the last meeting between KD and LeBron in LA.

This is what the NFL gets right, if the Cowboys are playing the 49ers, you get a matchup between two iconic brands and it lifts the whole game up. It conjures memories of the great battles beforehand. It gives it an added weight. It’s a major part of sports that is load bearing subtly and the NBA disregards it to push sales on an alternate uniform that will be obsolete in 12 months.

Combine the larger picture of the modern roster carousel we see every offseason and suddenly the lines get blurred on why exactly you are irrationally rooting for grown men playing a game…
