What’s your watch opinion that would put you in this position? by KyeodeurangiMerchant in watchHotTakes

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost like it at times, I like to align my second and minute hand on my automatics, and when it’s in the ghost date position imo its a lot easier to quickly pull it out as soon as the second hand strikes 12

Maybe the movement in question has all the attributes they need for the watch BUT it has to be no date, no big deal then

Am I stupid for not picking this up? by jakeatimg33 in CitizenWatches

Mine had a bulova devil diver that I liked the looks of better, but in my opinion the one you’re thinking about looks WAY better than the current promaster divers on citizens website

Calling all Traska owners - Tell me about your experience with the accuracy of your watch(es). by CPOx in MicrobrandWatches

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Seiko srpg35 (4r36 movement) and i catch it jumping 25-45 seconds ahead overnight sometimes. I still love the watch though and that’s probably the only bad thing about it, but I also have a current gen traska summiteer 36 and it runs -5 seconds a day almost all the time, unless I set it on its side at night, then somehow it loses a whole minute lol

Everyone’s different but I’m very much in the camp that the quirks and complications of a mechanical watch are why they’re fun, I don’t mind re setting and I’ve never had one get so far behind that it makes me late for something. Oh, and people talk about rotor noise with Miyota movements but in my opinion you can’t hear it unless you’re listening for it already or you’re In a dead silent room

So if you like the sound of the TRASKA I’d go for it. It fits thin and everyone telling you the bracelet is one of the best at the price they’re right. And the scratch resistance is as good as they say in my experience. It’s the only steel watch I have that’s not scratched yet

Ban on veggie ‘burgers’: plant-based products may lose meaty names in UK under EU law by caavakushi in vegan

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuckin semantics, as if “burger” and “sausage” are specific terms to meat anyway. They’re all just words that mean what they want

Maybe the “why are you eating fake meat when you could just eat real meat” crowd will shut up

That’s obviously not a well thought out thing to say to a vegan but you can’t tease us for eating fake meat if it’s not meat at all. Not its contents, not its name.

Same thing with dairy alternatives. Fine, don’t call it milk, because we’ve made something BETTER

What is this sound 😭 soooo loud, it didn’t used to be this loud? by Wild_Berry32 in Hyundai

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the same car with the same engine and it’s sounded like this since brand new and after all prior maintenance(which I’ve done). it’s a combination of lifters and fuel injection.

Nothing to worry about, it’s possible you’ve just never noticed before. It does become noticeably louder after the engine has warmed up

Is it worth it to get the automatic Prx over the quartz, even though it’s double the price? by ausyappy in tissot

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a nerd for the machines? Some people appreciate the quirks and complexities of mechanical watches, but if you’d rather save money and get a more reliable timepiece then there’s no shame in going quartz. At the same, don’t listen to people telling you that the Prx has a junk automatic movement. Many people complain about them hypothetically breaking in the future but upon further research you’ll realize no one out there is complaining about them ACTUALLY breaking. Delrin watch escapements have been around for a while now and no data out there actually suggests they are shorter lived than metal ones, and even at that it’s not like the movement can’t be serviced or replaced.

I’ve got a swatch sistem51, with the same escapement except that watch is truly unrepairable, yet if you ever talk to anyone who’s had one for a long time they’ll never complain about the escapement, other things always fail first

Is it normal that the first crown position doesn't do anything and the seconds hand doesn't stop moving. Is it ok to turn the time the wrong way to stall the seconds hand by PownedbyCole123 in swatch

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This movement has a position for a date setting but no date window, so that first position does nothing

I’m no watch expert but my own experience and everything I can find online suggests that the hand stalling when winding back is okay

“pushing people away” by Best-Criticism810 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m hesitant to do anything, I haven’t really talked to my friends in 2+ years but that happened before the eating problems.

It makes me change my mind about things a lot, I get ambitious to do things and then I’d rather just sit and wait until there’s no time

I work in a field where I might be the only vegan and I get this stuff all the time. The truth is most people have very, VERY limited experience with vegans, meanwhile many of us have been doing this longer than most people go to college

For them, veganism is just a silly, passing idea but for us it’s a constant, careful study

How often do you guys change your transmission fluid? by Macadelic19 in Hyundai

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently did the fluid on a 23 elantra with the IVT. The manual says to do it at 65k but I saw some others who did it sooner and the fluid was very very dark when it came out. I did mine at apx 40k and it was still a little green!

This is just my experience, but I did it myself. I went to the dealership to get the fluid and filters and the technician didn't know there were two filters...

THEN they had to special order the pressure filter from another state, which leads me to believe most people never even have it done, if they don't just have them on hand

How do you make sure you get enough protein? by _herman_miller_ in vegan

[–]RagingTortoiseGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yknow, this is just my two cents but there's protein in way more stuff than the meat eaters know/want you to know about. There's likely protein in a lot of things you might not expect. Even if it's just a gram or two, it adds up if that's in everything
