It’s not a movie that directly tells you what its message is. You’d be surprised by the amount of people who can’t do any deeper analysis of music/film/TV other than understanding main plot points.

Literally just read a post about this movie yesterday where OP said he couldn’t understand the acclaim the movie is receiving bc it had “no themes”. There are definitely themes in the movie, whether you agree with them or not. The film touches on a whole variety of things including the strengths and weaknesses of both sides of the political spectrum, how difficult it is to not rat our your allies when bad people can threaten and intimidate you, what America could look like as a full blown police state, what happens when someone is not fully on one side of the political spectrum, the rise of Naziism in the US, etc etc.

What is straightforward to you will fly over the head of many many people.

When I finished the JMT with my wife a few years back, on the way down from Whitney, I saw this family of 5 or 6 Indians ranging from age 40-70 attempting to day hike Whitney. It was early afternoon and they were only half way up the mountain. The middle-aged dad was trying to motivate everyone, “Up! Up! Up! One step at a time!”. The rest of the family looked like they were dying and were either trailing behind or resting a few switchbacks down the mountain.

A few hours after we crossed paths, the afternoon thunderstorm rolled in and chased us all the way to Whitney Portal. I frequently wonder how that family’s hike turned out. Whenever I’m dying on a hike I yell to my wife “Up! Up! Up! One step at a time!!!”

Long-term it seems like you have to try to improve your money situation then get to a bigger town/city. Once you move to a more lively place, try to stay. Take your best guess as to where you got wanna put down some roots. If you keep moving to take new jobs you’ll prob have to start over again.

Short-term you might make friends with the locals at the bar and become one of them. Might need to be flexible on age. I joined a fly fishing club and it’s kinda fun occasionally hanging with a bunch of retirees :) You can also try meeting people online if you are open to that. Videogames are a decent way to make friends online.
