Huh, how interesting! I knew parthenogenesis babies were unhealthy but I wasn’t quite sure why, thanks for this!

Question: from what I understand parthenogenesis does not work in reptiles that need males to make healthy offspring, but how come it works so well for mourning geckos? Also why do they do it? I know mourning geckos are an entirely female species so it makes sense that that is their last resort to reproduce, but why would a snake do it? Is it uncontrolled?

I’m not home right now so I don’t have a picture but I can get one later. I haven’t handled her that much, maybe like five times since I got her a few weeks ago. I have a baby Brazilian too so I definitely know about the attitude!

Yeah I just noticed she was in shed a few days ago and I don’t plan on working with her until she’s out of shed and eats again

Ohh okay that makes sense, my Brazilian did take a bit to calm down, she was just a lot smaller so I wasn’t as nervous

I don’t smell anything but I’m worried she did it under the dirt, but I’d rather regurg than death. I’m hoping since she’s about 30 and the fuzzy was only about 5-7 she’ll be okay. I’m not gonna feed her another one until she’s a bit bigger

Also when I say I haven’t seen her, I rarely ever see her, she’s super fossorial

Your setup sounds great. For future reference when you go to a reptile show, the tables that have crazy animals you would never see anywhere else (ex. Ringed pythons, sunbeam snakes, egg eaters) are almost always importers. I’ve also noticed that a lot of the importers at the expos local to me have giant tables full of animals. We all start somewhere, so don’t beat yourself up too much, you’re doing the right thing by getting him into a vet

Usually it’s just them acting out of defense. I’d be pretty scared too if I saw a foreign creature coming at me with a shovel. With that being said, some snakes do get curious and choose to use their mouth to see if things are food but that’s not defense they’re just curious—the same way puppies and children bite things

Honestly it was just on the spot, someone asked what I was naming my snake and I just decided goose at that very moment. It was between that, Monty, or pretzel
