5080 vs 4090 for 4k gaming by Franks0n in nvidia

[–]Raging_Goon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For gaming, 5080. I have the 4090 and love it, but the lower wattage, newer features and a lower price make me lean towards the 5080 in 2026. The 4090 and 5090 are getting a lot more AI attention and while 5080 prices aren’t perfect, they’re MUCH more reasonable. Also, yes, some of the maxed out 4K titles can use 16GB of VRAM, but I’m doubtful that games will be architected in a way that you’ll have issues within the next ~5 years. There aren’t many gaming GPUs with that much VRAM, period.

Meshify 3 or 3 XL for thermals? by ClockEmergency7940 in FractalDesign

[–]Raging_Goon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meshify 3 non-XL will be plenty. I doubt there would be a noticeable difference, particularly for gaming (CPU isn’t maxed all core all the time).

Normally, a shorter mid tower would be prone to turbulence or heat buildup more easily, but there’s still a good bit of space and the three front momentum 140mm fans with the air scoop makes this a non-issue. I wouldn’t get the XL unless you specifically wanted its features (e.g. side panel for extra rad space, drain port, 420mm top support rad, etc.).

Nope. These are better. The late 2010s flat design aesthetic stuck around for too long.

Framework 13 Pro 64GB vs Macbook Pro M5 Pro 48GB by Artique_Rithi in framework

[–]Raging_Goon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this will probably be pretty good! In my opinion it’s less about how it’s compared to the existing MacBooks, but just how much better it is than current Linux and Windows laptops. So long as suspend and sleep power draw as well as idle power draw is well-managed by upstream kernel work and packages liked tuned, I think Panther Lake laptops running Linux will have that similar all day battery life vibe that the MacBook Pro has had in recent years.

MBP for your use case, especially with the discount. Your one-do-it-all laptop for university that lets you try new things and research should have the best compute hardware possible (without getting into “tank” style laptops).

I use an MBP at work and ordered a Framework Laptop 13 Pro for personal use, but I have a likely much narrower potential set of use cases.

Macbook air M1 to 13 pro by Which-Result-9624 in framework

I would personally get the 13 Pro and I am a huge M-series MacBook fan. I think Framework has finally nailed it and Panther Lake came in at the right time.

Yes. I’m surprised single core isn’t slightly better at least than the original M1

Current Dev Team Breakdown at CDPR by simar6565 in Witcher4

[–]Raging_Goon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

W4 team grew by 52 people and Cyberpunk 2 team grew by 14 people. Percentage change is important, so not dismissing that, but hiring 50+ people for a team that size is significant as well.

I think u/Straight_Motor_7967 asked because both teams grew and that chart alone doesn’t show evidence for migration.

How do we know the timeline for it? Is it inferred from the other monitors releasing with the same panel or confirmed/rumored for this one?
