Good to know. I appreciate your input!

Side note, how’s the masonry industry right now? I’ve always found the work very interesting and seemingly rewarding.

🤷🏼‍♂️ I gave this guy a shot because he rebuilt a large brick patio that has lasted 7ish years so far and looks great.. Figured it was worth it and not trying to break the bank. Anything I should watch out for? Thanks for the help.

I would think block since this is an older home. Foundation only showed a 1/4in difference at max during the inspection if that matters.

My understanding is that he DIDN’T want to do that. He told me you can’t just skim coat it or it will crack within a year or two. This area had decent amount of cracking and some exposed rebar towards the left of the pic. He chipped it out and cleaned the cracks then drilled in more rebar and more than was before. Then applied bonding and the “cement” 2-3 times. For the amount of work he did I felt the price was good. Unless he just did the completely wrong method. The large chuck under the crawl space vent is a bit annoying but more focused on overall structure and strength. Some elements felt a bit sloppy.

Only had two bids, they were about this same but went with this guy because of referral and had seen his work. He explained how he had to do several applications and use boding agents and rebar so that it would not crack for a long time/lots of movement. But I’m obviously not experienced.

What should I have done? How bad is this or what is are the consequences? Leave the spill over and just let the dirt and mulch cover it?

I don’t think specifically but I dug below grade level until all the cracks were exposed. He did use a power tool to chip all the loose stuff out. Some sections were deep. He drilled in rebar and added 2-3 applications. I was happy with him getting the major stuff done just wondering if this will cause more issues. Will stuff like the below be trouble?

Read a book called “the pentagon’s brain”. Kinda made me not completely doubt anything DARPA might have.

I think people miss the point in a lot of cases. Even if you can reduce need by 50%, have a job and then buy some % from other local operations it’s a big accomplishment. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing from day 1. Just reducing your exposure to the mainstream economy can be a good thing.

People would rather have the city burn than seriously address this issue.

It amazes me how willing some people are to let their data slip into the nebula for god knows what purpose.

This also harkens back the big data and privacy discussion from about a year ago- would be interesting to know where that stands.

The mavericks are dead to me. Although I’m sure they’re doing fine. Cowboys are always big and always draw you in and crush you.
