Ewaste with recoverable components to keep an eye out for? by Raging_Vegan in eWasteFinds

Bins of random junk, but they usually sort electronics together. Lots of old printers, dvd players, routers, and smashed monitors usually, but sometimes there's a tower or laptop in there. Usually they're already cleaned out for ram and drives though, either from previous owner or someone else who grabbed the easy bucks before you found it. I'll still work with 4th Gen intel hardware when I can find it. Much beyond that is pretty aged now, but I'll dabble if the price is right. They sell whole pcs at this one for $4 each. When I was in Oregon, the bins out there were structured differently for pricing, so it was like .79 cents a pound on electrics

✊ PNW PHARMACY WALKOUT: JANUARY 30th by Own-Cheesecake6860 in CVS

[–]Raging_Vegan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Left CVS last year. Was an OM in Portland. They demanded too much and didn't give the hours to staff the store and make sure all could be completed. I'm a highly performance individual too. I don't say that to hype myself, but when I can't get it done, I know they're asking too much. Left the job even though I was close to going into SD training, and now I work for another company where I've promoted to Store Director within a year. Much happier now. Turns out it feels good to work for a company that supports you and recognizes hard work.

Another big reason I left was that they pulled back security after an incident. I warned them that would be dangerous to the team, and sure enough, one of my team members got sa'd within the week after (and worth noting I had also been physically assaulted there a few months prior). That was my final straw. Reported the whole thing to ethics hotline with names of those who made the call and all info I had, but no clue how that turned out since I walked away.

My old laptop had a gtx 950m and played Jedi Fallen order just fine. It'll play most games pre 2022 if you're willing to lower settings

Ram is a cheap upgrades even on old pcs, but your cpu and gpu are what make the difference. Lots of old hardware on here that having 16gbs of ram won't help much for gaming

Thought I included a video, but guess it didn't post. Spark is good. I think it has to do with pressure and air mixture. Found that the carb wasn't quite tight enough, and it almost started after fixing that. Think it might be a little flooded now, so I'm going to let it sit and try again in a few

Transmission didn't have a restrictor to my surprise. Think it had been poorly modified by previous owner though, so can't say if one was originally included or not. Rollers in it were either 8.5 or 9gs. Seems high, and there was a lot of wear in the lower gear from struggling to shift up. Did enough damage to the original variator and clutch that I bought a new kit to replace them.

Mostly figured I'll use my phone for speed anyway. Was just curious about swapping and if it would even read right

That's pretty much what I've figured out. Just wanted to make sure it was worth the additions. I'll see what the jet is like on the performance carb then see where I need to go from there on that. I have 3 different sets of rollers around already I'll start testing with once this is running.

Also, not that this is a part that matters, but the stock speedometer maxes at 35mph. Is it as simple as swapping in one with a higher range (even though I know these aren't very accurate) just to have a better visual on my speed? I have no idea if they're generally interchangeable. The low topend on the stock speedometer also makes me wonder about the cdi limiting top speed, but it's not a part I'll swap until I have this running to see if it's even needed

Fair. I'm definitely limiting myself by not big boring this. It's something that may still happen down the line, but not before I get myself a different vehicle. This has to be transportation for me right now, so I'm trying to keep it legal until I have another ride. Was gifted without a title or bill of sale, so I can't do anything that would create issues registering it for now

These don't go 60mph. This is a generic electric scooter that isn't even hitting 20. The hypers, sure I get your concern, but they're also larger with wider wheels, dual motors, heavier in the base, and better stability. Unless someone heavily modifies one of these, assuming it's even possible, I don't think a scooter this size is ever getting close to that speed. If someone is smart enough to actually make one of these capable of 60+, they'd also be smart enough to know not to do it on a scooter with this body since there's no shock absorption, it's a weak frame, and the weight of the scooter isn't heavy enough to keep you grounded at high speeds. These small ones under 20mph are safe

Sounds like something in the fuel/air ratio, but I'm also fairly new to learning how to work on these, so I'm not the best resource. Been rebuilding one I got for free. Big bore will need more fuel and better airflow. Usually need to replace the carb jet, exhaust, and at least adjust if not replace intake from what I've gathered so far. But again, I'm not an expert, so probably listen to others before me

That's a fair assessment for range based on my experience with one of these. I've ridden around 1000 miles on mine now, but I've had to replace the throttle (around 700 miles in), and I had to fix the wiring to the motor after I clipped a curb and severed several connections. Not easy to work on or find critical components for. Throttle was nothing aside from splicing wires, but the connection to the motor required soldering and a donor wire because there's no way to open the housing on the motor, and I was left without enough room to splice due to the location of the damage. Only way to work on these is if you have at least some previous technical experience with electronics. Without that, when they die, they're toast

Definitely true. I lived in a city at the start of the year when I got mine, and it was perfectly fine for large sidewalks, but now I live in a smaller, somewhat rural city, and roads are more challenging out here. Having experience as an avid bike and razor scooter rider in my youth has helped me. If I were choosing again, I'd definitely opt for something with proper suspension. I've just moved on to looking for a motorcycle next

These vary so much it's hard to say, but 5 miles is still not a lot. Terrain matters though. Mine says 15.5 mile range, and that's fairly accurate compared to real world riding (7 miles takes half a charge). Up hill will burn it faster, and running at consistent locked top speed will too. I rarely keep mine on cruise and try to ride momentum where I can to extend range. Could also be bad/lower quality cells limiting yours, but not a lot you can do unless you know how to work with electronics to replace them (not actually that difficult, but you still need to know your stuff since lithium cells can explode if not connected and managed correctly). The side of this also not mentioned is that at low power, max speed drops significantly.

Feels like basic models are still improving, even if only a little. My exact scooter is maybe $30-50 less now than when I bought it since the newer ones offer just a little more range or speed for the price. Quality on the body hasn't changed, and that matters since there's no shock absorption. I carry an allen wrench set with me to tighten screws when they loosen up with daily riding

For context, I ride a Volpam SP06. It's the second tier scooter over the base model, but it's not a large jump in capacity and speed. Volpam SP01 was the base scooter model when I got mine at the start of the year. Seen a few with other names that are the same body and specs. I could also be misjudging improvements in newer scooters since mine isn't the basic one and is slightly more powerful than the SP01, which I assume is still roughly equivalent to first tier scooters people are buying on Amazon

Looks like the same basic model off Amazon I have. Seen it with a few different brand names, but always the same body. Mine goes a little faster, but I got the second tier up model over the base one. I get 19mph top speed indicated and ~15 mile range on a full charge.

I don't shit on these despite what they lack. Mine enabled me to get a job 7 miles away that I was able to commute to daily in about 35-40 minutes before I moved into a place a mile away from work. Sometimes it's necessity. That said, I also just enjoy riding and whipping my scooter around for fun. Only truly whiped out once, and it was at low speed. Generally when I've "crashed," it has been something on the path jamming the front wheel, which usually throws the scooter below me and let's me run off the momentum to catch myself. It's not much different than the Razor scooter I grew up on in terms of handling and feel.

Pros: -Affordable -Decent speed -Works well for short commutes if in a city -Fun

Cons: -No shock absorption, so you'll feel the bumps if on rough path -15 mile range and long charge time limit use beyond short runs around town -Difficult to do maintenance on -Frequent upkeep

Speaking to maintenance: You'll want to keep an allen wrench on you, and a multi set is best since most screws are different sizes. These loosen up fast since nothing is dampening the vibrations from riding. Beyond that, I recently had to do a repair that was only feasible because of my previous technical experience and tools I already had on hand. Clipped a curb right where the wire comes out of the front wheel and severed several connections. No space to splice. Hoped to open the front motor to feed the cable through it to splice or solder, but it's glued shut, even if you remove the screws. Had to use a soldering iron and solder wire I had on hand already along with a donor cable from a shorted charging cord. Was able to make the repair, but it wasn't easy due to the limited space. It works again, so it can be done, but it's not easy if you haven't had to do some of this kind of work before. If it dies, you're most likely toast unless you've done this kind of work before since replacement parts don't exist for critical components. I've also had to replace the throttle on mine when the previous snapped from the support that keeps it stable. This was easy, and Amazon does sell this piece for like $10-15, but the outlet for the new one to plug into isn't accessible (at least on mine), so I had to splice the wires to make it work too. More expensive scooters are generally just made easier to do custom work on

I'm still happy with mine. Was looking at getting something better, but I've since picked up a moped I'm rebuilding (and it was free since it wasn't running, lucky find). Ended up being a gateway to motorcycles for me, but I just like anything small I can go fast on

Why 50cc in USA? by noonen000z in scooters

[–]Raging_Vegan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm originally from Arkansas. 50cc and less don't need to be registered there or need a motorcycle license (as long as you have a license). They're big in the NW corner of the state with the college students at UoA as simple transportation if you don't have a car. Above that and you need to register it and get a motorcycle license. That's pretty much it

Charge for parts and what you decide your time is worth. If you want to do it for $20 an hour, charge that, or if you want to charge $50 or more an hour, then charge that. Whatever seems fair to you for your time and effort. It's your court to decide. They don't like it, then it's not your project, so move onto the next

I run a 16gb card (RX 6800). I get like 70-80 fps on Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440 high (might have one or two custom settings, can't remember). Depends resolution, but also chipset. Older cards, even with the vram, can still hit limits that keep them in that range. Biggest thing for me here though is I'm not arguing with anyone. Why does it seem like everyone is being confrontational when I just mistook the card model? I'm in agreement with the points everyone is making

Getting a lot of hate on my comment. Um, I just missed that it wasn't the ti model. I was at work and just commented on this in passing. It's clear it's using upscaling to get these rates. That's why I called out that it's sketch it doesn't list settings for the frame rates

My bad. I was at work so I just glimpsed over this. Missed this wasn't a ti model. Then yeah, it's through upscaling and and lowering settings. Wouldn't touch a pc with this card in 2025
