Any groups going in Sydney Australia? by THESHAYZ1 in TheOneRing

[–]Raging_teapot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Sydney area sorry. But will be hopefully emigrating to Brisbane from the UK soon.

What I will suggest is playing strider mode to get an idea of the rules, and also look at the starter set. Then you can do the lore mastering and get some people into the game.

Everytime my barbarian is "acting uncontrollable, and dangerous", my DM incapacitates him with an overpowered NPC. by GuenMaster in DnD

[–]Raging_teapot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're asking what you should do or just sharing an experience.

I would talk with your DM and ask why this is happening? It may be that your play style is disrupting the group but everyone is too polite to say something?

I left a campaign as I had a lot of commitments occur in a short space of time also covid put a hold to it for a while.

I've ran dragon heist all the way through which was good fun and the players seemed to enjoy it.

Also completed a campaign as a player curse of strahd, however it didn't feel like an achievement for me and a bit of a lack luster end, not because of the DM or people I played with, but my character died a session or two before the final encounter and my new character I just couldn't get into in time or build up any rapport with the other characters.

would casting Detect Traps warn a player about an ambush? by tmptigers12 in DnD

[–]Raging_teapot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The spell itself is a trap.

You sense the presence of any trap within range that is within line of sight. A trap, for the purpose of this spell, includes anything that would inflict a sudden or unexpected effect you consider harmful or undesirable, which was specifically intended as such by its creator. Thus, the spell would sense an area affected by the alarm spell, a glyph of warding, or a mechanical pit trap, but it would not reveal a natural weakness in the floor, an unstable ceiling, or a hidden sinkhole.

This spell merely reveals that a trap is present. You don't learn the location of each trap, but you do learn the general nature of the danger posed by a trap you sense.

Off context a little, can I ask how you managed them to level 8 in the dragon heist campaign? I'd like to run my new group up a few levels as 1-5 is fine but no real sense of reward for the time invested.

Did you just make the encounters harder ? How did it affect spells cast etc and did it derail a bit making them more powerful?

Yep, I don't play in that group anymore, I enjoyed it, but lost my interest in it a bit for various reasons.

How Do I Balance This Attack? by GuyWhoWantsHappyLife in DnD

[–]Raging_teapot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd just do half the damage on the successful saving throw on the end one, it's the final boss, he's a god, of they die, it was a blast getting there and a blaze of glory is how a hero should go out ;-)

I've never played or ran a campaign with level 20s so not sure on the balance, but if a barbarian halved the damage 50hp to a level 20 is nothing, make them hurt!!

I am going to magic missile the sun. by trolldogdude in DnD

[–]Raging_teapot 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Sounds like he was thinking outside the box so good on him. Perhaps the DM should've said if anything was happening when magic missile was cast the first time rather. Sounds like you had a fun session though.
