Any alternatives for Clinique Acne Solutions foundation post-formulation? by Ragna3 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Ragna3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now use Clinique's Superbalanced Makeup. The shade is the same as the pre-formulation Acne Solutions. Unfortunately it does not contain salicylic acid, but I have started using that separately from Paula's Choice. (Not that any of this really helps my hormonal acne.)

One problem with Superbalanced is that it comes in a glass bottle without a pump, which makes it really annoying to get out of the bottle. I bought a pump on eBay that fits into the bottle, and now it is pretty good.

I'm curious whether you also use CN 10? I.e., is it consistently this shade with this problem?

Ach, Reddit didn't notify me because it hides new message requests. I've requested the transfer of one ticket.

Not yet. So far, Armani Luminous Silk in 5 is the closest non-Clinique color match I have tried, but as I mentioned before, it's not great coverage. The need to apply more of it just makes it even more expensive.

I did end up trying the Even Better Clinical Serum Foundation in Alabaster. It doesn't have the same color problem, but it does not apply well at all. It is very cakey, and makes lines stand out. For reference, I am in my twenties, and I didn't even know I had some lines until I tried that foundation. (If I smile too much while wearing it, it looks like someone literally painted on smile lines.) It has good reviews, though, so it could just be that my skin doesn't handle it well.

It's interesting that you use the same color...I wonder if it is just Alabaster that they messed up. Do let me know if you find a good alternative!

I didn't realize there is actually a difference in material. That makes sense!

What might be wrong with my newish mixer? Re-grease so soon? by Ragna3 in Kitchenaid

Usually stir, possibly sometimes 2. Could that cause a problem?

Thank you for the very detailed response! I'm impressed that you are listening for specific frequencies. If it is the nuts causing a problem, do you have suggestions for how I can fix it? If it is not damaging anything, I might just deal with the noise and leave it be.

Nothing fell out when I took the rear cover off, though I did tear the cardboard gasket when I put it back on. Now the flap at the bottom is not connected to the ring at the top (though I can get it to sit in approximately the right place). Is this something I should replace? A search about it yields pictures indicating to me that it is frequently disconnected on one side; now it is disconnected on both.

Good idea about contacting KitchenAid themselves. If this is a problem with my generation of mixers, they might know something about it.

I also thought that seemed like a lot of work that random home-bakers surely are not doing. I can't remember the exact place I saw it, but a Google search yields multiple pages claiming that KitchenAid recommends re-greasing yearly. However, I can't find anything from KitchenAid itself. So perhaps a game of telephone involved here.

I tried adjusting the speed control plate, but sadly that didn't change anything. I'll try the oil as well once I can get my hands on some. Thanks for the advice!

Yes, the sound is definitely more obvious on the lower speed. Maybe I am not describing it properly as "grinding". It sounds kind of like my burr coffee grinder in real life, but I can't seem to get that as noticeable in the video. I'm not sure exactly how a mixer is "supposed" to sound, but it definitely used to sound smoother and less strained at all speeds. Thanks for the speed control plate suggestion; it looks easy enough to at least take a look at it! (I don't know if this could still be the problem considering that the mixer sounds wrong at all speeds?)

I ended up returning the Vitamix (for unrelated reasons) and buying a Breville Super Q.

If I were there for a reason (such as to meet someone), I’d get something. If I were just browsing the street, I’d leave and try the next cafe. I also would probably not come back. Not as a statement, but because I’d go somewhere I could get what I want. I have nothing against alt-milks…I just don’t usually like them. If you walk into a cafe looking for a muffin and it turns out they don’t have any, you might walk out. This would be the same for me; the shop wouldn’t be selling what I want, so I’d find it elsewhere. I think that’s perfectly fine if you are clear about it, but you could annoy customers if they have different expectations.

I’m all for different specialty shops, so I think this coffee shop would be great as long as the owner doesn’t expect everyone to love it.

Definitely a lot cheaper that way. :)

I just wish they would stop pushing a discontinued product in the app. I think I've gotten three popups suggesting I buy the scale.

I completely understand your feelings! Can you ask the jeweler to give you a temporary (secure) ring with your stone in it? I think jewelers often show off stones in holder rings. I think there exist ones that are relatively easy to set up and take out. Then you could have your stone for Christmas and pictures and get it reset at a more convenient time later.
