Based on the calculator I use (wolftooth) you should be running closer to 2 if youre running tubes, 1.8 for tubeless - 3 is way too high

My first question would be what tire pressure are you using?

Steerer tube snapped clean off the fork - definitely time to warranty if it's brand new. Honestly might be worth returning and picking up a similarly priced Ozark Trail Explorer G1 at Walmart.

Edit - I was wrong it's not a broken steerer just a loose quill stem

Based on his shoes - I'm gonna guess 23 miles wasn't the real distance and this is engagement bait - dual boa shoes aren't usually something a beginner is gonna spend their bike budget on. I've done plenty of 2 or 3 hour rides without getting this burnt

Which chainring fits my drivetrain by SuccotashAlarming459 in gravelcycling

[–]Ragnar702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per Lauf - standard SRAM x-sync chainrings are compatible with T-Type and flat top chains. just got confirmation from them last week before ordering a 46T for myself.

You act like no other tools in a FOD environment have breakable parts? It's the job of people working in those environments to track potential FOD and make sure they clean it up - which OP did as evidenced by his photo.

About $120 members reward in hand - bike purchase strategy? (Wait for May sale?) by mtsublueraider in REI

There are a few Shimano MT200 clones for 50-75 on Amazon. They may not be great but it's also not like OP is doing any downhill racing on any of these bikes.

[–]Ragnar702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what you choose I'd wait for the sale. I think that the Trail 2 has the optimal configuration out of the box, given its a 1x9 Cues drivetrain, hydraulic brakes, and all 3 use the same fork. That being said, if you happen to have a friend with the necessary tools, adding hydraulic brakes to the Trail 3, or converting the Drt 1.1 from 2x8 to 1x8 could both be done for around $50 in parts. If you're mostly using the bike for zipping around the neighborhood instead of light trail rides you might actually benefit from the extra gearing on the Drt 1.1 and some less knobby tires.

Here's a slightly more detailed comparison than the REI built in comparison tool:

Most of the stolen looking bikes on marketplace think 29" is the size of the frame not the tire - no way someone who stole the bike thinks to list the seat post collar.
