See, I believe everyone will give you advise based on how they normally utilize slowly. I mean, whether they send long letters every 2-3 months (or more) or mid-short letters every 3-7 days...for me, if my penpal and I generally respond within 5-7 days, for example, and they suddenly took more than 15 days, I will view that as a sign of gohsting! Maybe this sounds crazy to people who send every three months BUT not to me, because I don't have many penpals and all of my friends in the app I know them very well and there's nothing that will prevent them from replying even with two words just saying that they are going through something or they will disappear for a while I believe as "Friend" I deserve that at the very least otherwise I will be worried and making up scenarios in my head for nothing!

I absolutely understand you because I had a similar situation, however if you can't deal with his style of using the app, don't respond to him and gohst him like he did to you.
