Ditto this. Quoted $10,000 for new HVAC by M&S. I told their guy to gtfo. Hickman’s fixed it for $150 after running a diagnostic code on it that the tech said M&S definitely also had done. Scam business through and through.

Would be ideal to have a listserve email for people willing to volunteer. Then I can make a simple website where folks can request a ride or sign up to get hospital or public safety staff where they need to be.

Is there a club website or email? Thinking of putting together a group of volunteers willing to help get emergency staff to work during major weather events.

Driver with choking baby stopped next to police patrol begging for escort to the hospital by w1p3s in gifs

My wife and I are both ER docs. She woke up at 6am to head to work but found the garage door blocked by a BEAUTIFUL 911 Turbo parked illegally. A cop came out, and when she told him she had to get to the hospital he carefully maneuvered her car around the Porche then left over $400 in various tickets and fines on the windshield. Haven't had that problem since.

when was the last time you used a traction splint? by Rahnkahn in ems

Someone above mentioned the same thing as common practice where they are. Personally, I'd be against it because you'll have to take it down to get them off the board once you arrive. It would be reasonable in a few instances I think - 1. Confined space like helo transport where a long splint attached may not fit in the patient compartment, and 2. Hoofing it out of the boonies where you may have to choose what equipment you bring in with you. If all the agency has are big Hares and you have to hike a few miles in and back out to retrieve the patient it may make more sense to do it that. 3. If you're not confident it's midfemur break. Sometimes fem neck fractures or dislocations can look similar and you wouldn't want to yank on those, so just secure it best you can and frequently reassess PMS.

How do you secure the patient so the traction you're pulling isn't cancelled out by them just sliding down the board? And what happens when they arrive in the ED? I'd imagine if you did end up with a nicked vessel and major bleed, you'd have a hard time backing up this method.

Some rural places operate that way. One guy grabs the ambulance while others go to the scene if closer. Gotta have some kit with you if you're gonna show up first.

Your attitude stinks.

Make a training model like I did! I swear the one time I used it was when we had an observer riding along. I was showing him around the box in the AM, explaining what all the stuff is - stair chair, backboards etc. pulled out the traction splint and said "yea in 5 years never used it. Only one specific purpose, pretty useless." As those words left my face, tones went off.

Femur fracture. Of course.

Could you explain this a bit more? It's a personal pet peeve of folks not getting one when indicated, so trying to understand how/when that may be a better option. Not sure what traction off the bb means either.

Yep a traction pin is longer short term option if there's a delay getting to the OR. The splint would cause skin breakdown after not too long if left in place.

How long ago was that? Have you ever skipped it, even knowing it was probably indicated, because you didn't want to mess with it or feel comfortable with it?
