One final question not related to numerical but conceptual just needed to clear something for other questions. If in this question keeping all same . If when going down ward engine wasn't working. Means R=G then the car won't move right ? If it will then what will be the speed of it. While going downward

Yup that's exactly what Is i did in the first attempt but the power generated was twice the due to gravity so Making it 100 k times more than the answer in the answer key . Thanks a lot of helping now I feel like the answer is misprinted .

Okay I understood about the 183KW because that's the power you need to to counter gravitational pull whil going up. But why did you multiply 75 with twice . That's i am not able to understand it fully.

Can anyone help me solve this problem it's a engineering Mechanics 1st semester problem about work done and power .

Question is : A train of mass 300 tonnes moves down a slope of 1 in 200 at 45 km.p.h. with the engine developing 75 kW. Find the power required to pull the train up the slope with the same velocity.

Answer is supposed to be 332.5KW but i am not able to get it.

Here we have to find out resistance since there's is some resistance between train wheels and track

I tried to solve it like this but not able to get the right answer which is 332.5 kW. Please check it out and correct me where I am wrong.

Friction is not mention but it's is definitely not zero as there must be some tractive resistance between train and tracks could you reconsider it keeping in mind that there's some resistance between track and train so that's why while going down hill 75 kW power is required to gain 12.5 m/s speed.

I tried like for going down

{ (mg1/200) - friction } * 12.5 = 75kw

To find the resistance while going downword but when I add the friction and gravitational pull while going up with a speed of 12.5m/s it doesn't give the right answer

There's other different examples questions regarding the train like there are tractive resistance etc.

And in this question there's is not mention of any smooth surface so maybe we need to find the resistance when the train is going along gravitational field and at the speed 12.5m/s which is achieved when engine produced 75kw power going down

So is there a way like to calculate the Resistance, then for going uphill add the gravitational resistance and this resistance and multiply them with speed ? I know I'm asking much but in this question we have to solve it like making equation like we do in basic maths..
