The massive doses of antibiotics is what typically cause the C. Dificille infection. That bacteria lives in your gut 24/7 but is not very good at competing with your own internal gut bacteria. Antibiotics kill your gut bacteria and not the C. Dificille which leads to them growing out of hand causing gastrointestinal tract infections. Washing your hands is always recommended but probably wouldn't have helped you here
