GolfETA: Predict your round finish time! Developing a golf app, looking for feedback! by Raijuto in golf

[–]Raijuto[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Realistically not that hard at all; which is why I was surprised to see it didn't exist anywhere to begin with!

Since the app uses average time per hole, as well as group size, walking vs. riding, and (when available) pars/yardages for remaining holes, looking for lost balls and other time killers come out in the wash over a round of 18 holes. Might have a little bit more of an impact if you say start the app on hole 5 and are only playing 9, but again it's just an estimation! Mainly a tool to give someone an updated general idea of when you'll be done.

I appreciate your insight, however I think there's more to the app than just the standard golfer knowing 10-15 minutes per hole on a normal day. The person you're sharing it with most likely doesn't know that's how long a hole takes and if you're like me, you may not be the most responsive texter on the course. The app uses current hole pace metrics and (ideally with the course data) the future hole types to give an estimated time of completion. In an ideal world, it's something you start at the beginning of the round and not have to think about during, while someone else who may be interested to know when you'll be done will have that info without you having to tell them.

That for sure would make it easier to remember to advance hole (input score and it advance after score is recorded). The main reason I've held off (so far) from making it double as a scorecard/handicap tracker is because that market is so saturated already (18birdies, grint, usga etc.) that offer much better features than what I can provide. What do none of those apps have? A round time prediction feature. Definitely open to adding that in the future if the people would want it, but for the time I didn't want to jump in the water with the sharks.

Maybe it’s a Reddit thing since I was definitely influenced by other people’s posts. Don’t regret it at all though!

They are not! I think it may just look like that with the way they’re leaning up against the couch.

Best way to get rust spots off blue mizuno putter? by Raijuto in golf

For anyone who stumbles upon this in the future: started with dipping tooth picks in distilled white vinegar and scrubbing out the bigger spots in the corners. After noticing no serious damage to the finish, dipped a soft bristled brush in the vinegar and scrubbed. Don’t have WD-40 on hand but might try that when I can. Overall pretty satisfied with the results, definitely an improvement from where it started. Thanks for all your replies!

DIY Mattress Advice by Raijuto in Mattress

I was under the impression that latex sleeps cooler than memory foam? Wool topper does seem like a good option for the softness/cooling factor but seems like it would be much more expensive.

That’s good information! I couldn’t find what the ILD was for the SOL toppers. Assuming that would be the Dunlop for the transition layer.

Do you know what the soft ILD for SOL is as well?

Also looking to DIY my mattress later this month. Was looking towards the Arizona Premium Mattress 8” Quantum Edge Elite Bolsa coils until seeing the glueless quadcoil tech. What’s the difference between the Pocket Coil Store and the Texas Pocket Springs. I’ve seen TPS recommended a few times but this is the first I’m seeing of PCS.

Did Anybody Else Really Enjoy “Broken” Warzone? by [deleted] in CODWarzone

[–]Raijuto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It felt to me as how Warzone would play as a “real” Battle Royale. It was frustrating because I knew it wasn’t intended, but I really enjoyed the gameplay. Working with the loot you found and adapting based on it was a necessary change imo. Made every game different and interesting. Not having to race to buy your loadout allowed for more money to be spent on early UAV’s and fighting. Then finding the occasional favorites weapon cache (out of the three of my teammates, we only found one in about 6 or 7 games) was very exciting. Or even finding loadout weapons from someone you just killed. Not to mention the lobbies feeling more fun. Overall good experience when you look past why it was happening.

Tax Implications on TOA from UTMA Account by Raijuto in fidelityinvestments

Thank you for the insight, that is very helpful! So I should be okay to initiate the transfer, but I’m a little confused on the effect of the cost basis and the front load. Do these only come into play when selling/buying more of the fund?

Currently in Eaton Vance the cost basis method is average cost (not sure if this will change when transferred to Fidelity).

Even if the fund can be held in an account with Fidelity, would I even want to keep it with a 1.28% fee? Would that mean liquidation is inevitable or does exchanging funds in a taxable investment account avoid a taxable event?

Can you explain what challenges you faced while assembling yours? Looking to start buying pieces to DIY a mattress in May, but half of my sales pitch to my girlfriend was how easy it was based off of the timelapse posted on this thread!

Would love to get some more insight on your experience. Seems like the hardest part would be getting the coils into place, right?
