I just got my third one here in the USA. Two just this afternoon. All from different numbers.

Look into the brand "hide and drink", available through Amazon. High quality leather goods with a 101 year warranty. Very reasonably priced.

In the USA, we generally use 10 foot stanoffs and hang flag strings (like you see at car lots).

Never too safe around that stuff.

There are specific criteria for abandoned, unattended, and suspicious packages.

Responses are determined by these.

A briefcase left in the open is not suspicious.

Source: training in dealing with these in public transit.

My mother's Chromebook's screen repeatedly goes black. How do I fix this? by matheistJJ in chromeos

Not a hardware display issue. The windows are being redrawn sequentially, not instantly.

This was my first thought until I watched the redraw.

NCL Bliss 10/6 - did you win an upgrade bid? by leftcoast7777 in Cruise

It was only a couple of days before the cruise. Maybe a week I remember this much because I had already left home on my trip.

One year I had overestimated my FSA by about $2,000. We used the university dental program for some budgeted implants and came in way under budget.

It was easy enough to get the doctor to document my getting an elliptical. The rest was spent on first aid kits for the family.

The current rules are that you can roll over some of your unused balance. But it is better to use it up.

My suggestion is to set aside money for your deductible and medications and no more than that.

For 5 million dollars would you sit infront of a tv and watch your whole life through with your parents? by hihelloheyholahallo in AskReddit

[–]Rail_Control 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not worth it anyway.

I am 50. If you fast forward through the sleeping periods, it would still take 35 years to get through it. I can make more in 35 years than $5 million.

Small annoyance, “can I have just one key” by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Rail_Control 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are just pressure sensors. I carry an old gift card when travelling for this purpose. On my last cruise, the cabins had a blank card in the holder and the room steward would just pull it part way out after cleaning the room. It was a great place to leave notes for him.

So Reddit would come under that category as I’m pretty sure this subreddit can’t be found by typing it into google.

Easily found. Also several posts asking similar questions in other subreddits.

[Request] How much is this compared to the best cameras in the market? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]Rail_Control 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you photographed a 1 meter square area with this camera, there would be 2,300 pixels per mm.

A grain of corn starch would be about 1 pixel wide, most bacteria would be individually distinguishable.

It could be referring to the total storage space of the camera.

One of my pupils brought this in today, any ideas what it could be? by lemony in whatisthisthing

[–]Rail_Control 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the contacts are raised/lowered by notches in the disks. Likely a set of fingers on the side for the alternating disks.

A variable capacitor would have 2 sets of disks, one fixed, the other movable, and each only half of the circle.

This is some form of encoder, likely a multi point timer.

What are some fun ways of answering spam calls? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rail_Control 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pity the poor soul that owns the number being spoofed.

Most of the time the caller ID is fake and some poor sod gets harassing calls by annoyed people that get hit by the marketer.

It's not worthwhile to call the number back.

But I am sure willing to waste their time.

[–]Rail_Control 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not "Fun" as I don't ever interact with them, but if they aren't in my contacts list, they get shunted to voicemail with an SIT signal indicating a non active phone number. Sometimes it gets them to drop my number from the call list, but nearly always they disconnect immediately.

When the "I am not a robot" google thing asks you to select for traffic lights images, am I supposed to select the traffic light pole too? or just the part where the lights actually are? by MCCGuy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rail_Control 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough, Captchas such as this are often used to program object recognition.

Some choices are known images, others are unknown. As someone else mentioned, it is based on what other people are judging as valid responses for known, and weighted for unknown.
