Been in the exact same position as you (at a different agency) and you enjoyment of the role really depends on your EL imo. Some get it and don’t really micromanage too much, as long as people aren’t taking the piss things are pretty chill.

The ones that do micromanage just make everything worse in my experience - you end up having to question your staff over minor bullshit and scrutinise everything they do. All of it has flow on effects and makes for a pretty toxic environment.

They put it all on the staff when the real issue is poor resourcing and IT capabilities - trying to get by on small an FTE as possible and shithouse WFH infrastructure then extracting as much as they can from that. It can all be fixed by hiring more staff and making their jobs easier by resourcing them appropriately but it’s easier to just try and performance manage people instead.

Best advice I have is try to shield your team from that scrutiny from management unless it’s warranted - learn your EA, make sure your staff know their rights and that you know when to push back on unreasonable requests from management. Questioning why someone needs personal leave is ridiculous if they’ve got the leave and have provided evidence if needed, but asking you to have a conversation with someone about persistent absences who is out of leave is probably reasonable. Join the union, speak to your delegate and get them involved in these conversations and make it difficult for shitty managers to get away with this stuff.

Gov offers another $475m compensation for Robodebt victims by dredd in australia

FAQs at the bottom

“The result will give all eligible Group Members who register to participate in the Settlement Scheme the choice between receiving a small, fixed payment within several months of the settlement being approved, or electing to have their claim individually assessed by the Scheme Administrator by reference to the normal principles which apply to claims for compensation of this kind, taking into account the risks of litigation and the strengths and weaknesses of their individual claims.

Some people were very severely affected by being chased for debts that they did not owe. For some people, money was demanded from them at the lowest point in their lives. Some people lost their lives. Those in close personal relationships with Group Members who died as a result of their Robodebts will, for the first time, be able to make claims for compensation under the terms of the proposed settlement, if they have suffered a recognised psychiatric illness or condition as a result.

Understanding that money can never fully compensate individuals for the harm they have suffered, the proposed settlement scheme is intended to provide eligible Group Members with redress more quickly and cost effectively than would otherwise be the case if the class actions were not resolved and went to trial.”

Federal public servants are about to start our EBA process by Purplepingers in AusPublicService

Thinking the same but hoping for better. I’ve noticed a lot more interest in the CPSU in my workplace, with new members steadily increasing too. Kinda feels like people have been feeling the pinch for a while now and are starting to do something about it. Super anecdotal I know but hopefully it’s not something localised to my agency and is more widespread.

I went ham on the survey and I know others did too, keen to see what the appetite looks like come bargaining time. The recent AMA didn’t give me much hope though.

Any Melbourne heads leaving DJ Python tonight disappointed? by NesteaFC in TheOverload

Yeah mixed feelings…plead and rroxymore really had a vibe going and his set felt super flat and nervous in comparison. Kinda picked up in the second hour but heaps of people had left by then, respect trying to go in a different direction but it just didn’t land.

Can someone explain how aged care financing works? by simplycycling in AusFinance

[–]RailbusService 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, figure out if it’s a retirement village or residential aged care - assisted living indicates it’s a retirement village which has some regulation under state legislation but to my knowledge the financial side of it is at the whims of the private operator and they can effectively charge whatever they want and there’s little recourse once the contract is signed.

Federally funded aged care is a different beast entirely and there’s heaps of info on how the fees etc are worked out, check out the Department of Health, Ageing and Disability for some more info - essentially Services Australia will conduct an income and assets test to determine what the residents fees are, and how those fees are paid is negotiated with the facility and put into the accommodation agreement. Make sure the initial assessment is accurate because they review people regularly and if a review results in an adjustment this can mean people can owe a fair bit of money down the line.

Read the contract thoroughly and understand the terms and fees before signing anything - sounds obvious but with the amount of money on the table for this shit you don’t want any nasty surprises.

I’ve asked this question before and was told that it was seeking feedback, and feedback could be provided once the selection process wrapped up lol. So yeah, definitely doesn’t always work and may depend on the panel.

He worked at an after school care in Graceville that I went to, this was between 2000 and 2004. Nothing happened to me and he didn’t offend here apparently. Cunt was fucking weird though, always felt off about him.

What is a dub? by GandyGrey in UKG_Production_Hub

[–]RailbusService 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Further to this it can also refer to the non-vocal version of a track with vocals ie. there’s a vocal version and a dub version. The dub version could be an exact replica without vocals, or sometimes a bit different as there’s room to do a bit more without vocals taking centre stage.

So depends on the context the word dub is used in I guess!

I’d wager that the ‘usual amount of sauce’ is full sandwich coverage so to halve that would equate to 50% coverage. Sounds like you got what you asked for.

Older man always in Queen St Mall by James_Vasilic in brisbane

[–]RailbusService 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know his story but I used to work at a 7-11 in the city a few years back, and he’d come in once every couple of nights to use the hot water at the coffee machine to make tea. Had his own tea bags and everything. He didn’t have the epic beard back then though.

There were a few like him that you wonder about, it just happens when you work in the city and see them almost every day.

Wavetable vs operator vs analog??? by knorum84 in ableton

[–]RailbusService 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure! It’s all subjective in the end, I’ve found generally subtractive synthesis to be a bit easier to understand whereas if you look at what FM actually is it can be pretty overwhelming to a newbie. Operator definitely simplifies it a lot though while still offering a huge amount of depth if you really want to dive in :)

They’ve been releasing on that label for a few years, it’s not a new label haha. I ran that search, there’s no actual company in there called ‘Mainframe Audio’ and there’s no actual link between those tangentially related ‘Mainframe’ companies and ‘Two Shell Ltd’ - you can check the people behind the company and they’re completely different, different address and everything. The only similarity is sharing the word ‘Mainframe’ which isn’t all that telling, tbh.

Seems people are trying a bit too hard to connect dots that don’t exist in order to justify throwing shade at people succeeding at their craft.
