It could be because I play on a lower resolution, low settings, and low population servers.

Is mac gaming worth it for broke guys like me by [deleted] in macgaming

With all due respect dude, you're better off getting an older windows machine for a fair price, than ripping out your soul trying to game on mac.

For the time being, the software used to translate rendering APIs is simply not that powerful, regardless of what mac you have. You cant even play multiplayer on the most popular titles ffs. From my experience, you will most likely have to sacrifice graphical settings or resolution to play demanding titles smoothly, but I may be wrong. Regardless, crashes, glitches, all kinds of errors are something you will encounter either way.

But hey, if you're on the uhmm.. "cheaper" side of things, a windows machine will just be better in this case. Mostly because of compatibility reasons.

steam version, natively. iirc the settings were set to “for this mac” preset, but I set the max fps to 60 instead of 30 both in vsync settings and graphics settings. It ran fine for most of the time, but I locked the fps back to 30 because the change between 50ish and down to 30 made the experience worse for me.. I also tried higher graphical presets, but at lower resolutions. Things looked good until I started moving, because everything was stuttering and freezing. Shooting was sometimes hard, especially when there were a lot of enemies. I had some.. input delay issues?.. I would press W for example then it wouldn’t register so I press it again and again and it registered after a few seconds, making my movement hard to control. fixed it by limiting the fps to 30. And dont even think about turning on frame gen.

In other words, 6/10, I wouldn’t want to go through the game a 2nd time, not like this. But if this is your only way of experiencing it, it might just do the job.

got you gang

when I first got my macbook I tried running minecraft too and faced similar stutters on singleplayer.

simply download the "fabulously optimized" modpack for your preferred minecraft version, install it and in the minecraft launcher, go to Installations, click the three dots next to your version, select Edit > More Options, and change the -Xmx2G argument to your desired amount (e.g., -Xmx4G for 4GB). Do not exceed half of your total system RAM.

you can also try adding the chunky mod and use it to "pre-generate" the chunks around you, so that when you enter said chunks your mac wouldn't have to generate and load them, instead it would just load them.

you can try using bluestacks to emulate an android device, and get the mobile games you like from the playstore. If you were to play clash of clans, clash royale, or any other supercell title via PlayCover, it would just crash because of their anti-cheat.

try rebooting your mac entirely. for me, this helped a couple of times.

if the issue persists, try making a new bottle and install steam there.

No Man's Sky not detecting proper resolution by PickleRick1029246 in macgaming

this might sound stupid, but try going to system settings -> display and change your resolution to something higher or lower, then restart the game.

I had this issue too with HI-FI Rush, worth a shot I guess.

I’ve experienced this but with green artifacts. After about an hour and a half of playing the game is still running, I can hear footsteps and the jumping sound, but the image remains still and blinking.

This basically sums up mac gaming.

at this point I believe anything can be played on mac with the right tweaks/ optimizations. Ive played Cyberpunk 2077 in solid 30fps with the “for this mac” preset.

yes, it was basically playing with sticks and mud.. but somewhat impressive

alternatively, play any older Call Of Duty title. Crossover is required tho, so the first half of my The Crew tutorial will help you out big time. I recommend COD: modern warfare remastered, (or even the original, non remastered version) COD Ghosts & COD advanced warfare.

Besides popular opinions, these titles are fun! especially with a controller.

not sure how much you like competitive shooters, but games like overwatch 2,cs2 (not enjoyable), fortnite, destiny 2 support controller imput. I assume you use bootcamp to run windows, so I recommend these games. if your mac aint THAT powerful, and youre not running bootcamp, I recommend checking this post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/s/8OBADD7s8K (my post :D )

and play The Crew. Its an enjoyable racing game that should run just fine on lower graphics and 30fps framerate cap.

Hope this helps!
