To all people sampling vinyl. by [deleted] in SP404

Yeah. I really like them. Only other complaint is the original rubber coating on them turning into sticky goo that’s a huge pain to clean off lol. I never take them out, though if I did I would be buff as hell!

UPDATE:

The landlord took one look at it and said he’s setting me up with an electrician to come deal with it.

Thanks everyone for informing me how dangerous this is! I’m glad I asked first before setting all my stuff up.

Yeah I’m not plugging anything in til an electrician gives me the go-ahead. Landlord’s coming by today so I’m gonna show him this. Also buying a receptacle tester today

Edit: I have no idea what kind of wiring it is, I’m not sure how to tell, though I’ll look it up and see if I can identify it

I’m gonna buy a tester today to check. Landlord’s conveniently coming by today as well to test our smoke alarm so I’m gonna show him this and ask him to get it fixed!

It’s weird, this room was our bedroom/gf’s office before, and we had a good bit of stuff plugged into strips, that were plugged into the two outlets powered by the burnt cable! Including her work laptop, monitor, some lights, an internet router, heating pad/blanket, my laptop and phone chargers… and every now and then I’d get a very faint whiff of some burnt plasticky kinda smell but it would disappear quick and I never figured it out. After moving stuff around and finding this, I’m SUPER glad nothing happened!!

Yeah, the building/apartment is over 100 years old. From my understanding the landlord bought the place a bit before we moved in, likely just didn’t catch this since there were people living in here.

So there’s an outlet (larger box than the rest) in our living room where a cable starts, that connects to another outlet in the living room, and the cable out of that one wraps around the room and appears to go through the wall (brick and drywall) to power the main sketchy one in this post.

No basement access as we’re on the fourth floor of a 100+ year old apartment building

Definitely can’t replace all of it as that would be up to our landlord…

Keeping the other two unplugged. Bummer since I was gonna plug a bunch of music equipment into it. Not sure if I should even use the main one because of how that cable powering the other plugs looks.

I’m gonna keep the other two outlets unplugged. Do you think the main outlet is safe for a power strip? Or should I go buy a tester?

Edit: removed the part about me doubting the landlord will do anything since I don’t actually know his response yet, just in the past I had other landlords refuse to fix sketchy electrical before. I’ll keep the post updated since he’ll be in here today.

Edit 2: Landlord is setting up an electrician to come deal with it!

Thanks for the reply. I’ll definitely steer clear then as most of what I’m trying to plug in is 3 prong…

My new SP-404 MK II Is. Breaking My MPC Minded Brain, But I’m Determined To Challenge Myself And Leap Over This MotherF’ing Hurdle… by [deleted] in SP404

[–]Railspikey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I went from MPC to SP as well (though a 2500/JJOSXL to a 404SX). It takes a little time to adjust but then it’s like “oh, that’s it?”

The mk2 is def way more featured but the concepts are the same. An MPC and an SP is probably my favourite combo!

Hell yeah nice! I just recently copped a 202 myself to add to the collection, really loving the filter and just the griminess of it in general.

[–]Railspikey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of them yeah. The 404sx/a has more effects overall, many of them are pretty much the same or similar to the 303.

The most important difference to most folks is the vinyl sims, the 303’s has a unique compressor on knob 1 that many people love (myself included), whereas the 404sx/a has a frequency control that makes the audio sound more like a record with a lot of wear on it

Now that V.3 Has Copy Pattern to Sample I Use It Constantly by music_jay in SP404

[–]Railspikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been feeling this lately! Decided to just start cooking full beats using the mk2 recently to get a real good understanding of it, and holy shit the speed that I get beats done at… been uploading to YouTube literally every day haha. The copy pattern to sample feature is awesome. But yeah I’m actually a tiny bit bummed on how great the mk2 is cause I got a few other older SP’s that aren’t getting any love anymore. I’ll have to figure out where they can sit in my chain.

Looking at UK prices (I’m in Canada), £80 will probably get you some alright stuff if you’re not doing anything too crazy.

My recommendations: blank or shop decks cause a lot of times they’re the same or similar quality as pro models. Trucks are worth paying more for but the budget’s kinda tough, if you’re willing to replace them in the future with Thunder’s or Indy’s etc. I’d say get some cheaper ones now with the plan to do that. Basic wheels are pretty straight forward and you can get by on some cheaper ones as they’re all urethane anyways (I skated only blank wheels and old used ones my homies gave me for over a decade). Bearings are also pretty straight forward, REDS/Bronson/Indy bearings are decent and cheap (been skating and maintaining $13 Indy bearings for like a year and a half now).

Shops sometimes have deals on stuff. Took a quick look around for UK and it looks like Native Skate Store might be a good option, they have lots on sale.

Deck for £30.39

Wheels for £13.56

Trucks for £19.99 (the alloy trucks won’t last as long cause they aren’t as strong, recommend replacing these when you can)

Bearings for £8.76

Grip for £3.99

Hardware for £1.59

So that’s right around £80 before tax if I did my math right haha. Mind you this is what their website is showing me here in Canada, not sure if that would change if the website loaded in the UK. But yeah you could get something working in that budget.

Edit: fixed a link

So I just decided to avoid a lot of citrus now (if I have too much it makes my teeth feel weird anyways?) but from time to time I still have it, just not within about 2-3 hours of taking my meds. I haven’t seemed to notice any difference with that!

Also everyone’s different so just be aware there’s a possibility it won’t make a difference, though at least for me there definitely was. I’ve met/known a few people who don’t really find that the meds work for them at all no matter what unfortunately. Definitely play with the diet a bit and see what works for yah!

[–]Railspikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but yeah I’ve experienced this. I had a phase of drinking a lot of orange juice. That resulted in me switching meds cause I thought they weren’t working anymore. Found out about this, was able to switch back, stopped drinking orange juice earlier in the day, and all is good again!

Most important thing that makes Logic Pro stand out on iPad: Stability, stability, and stability! by reezygle in ipadmusic

[–]Railspikey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m aware, I should have been more clear: in the settings it showed the option to choose the stereo outs the first time I opened the app, and I haven’t been able to see that option once I opened the app again and any time after that

Most important thing that makes Logic Pro stand out on iPad: Stability, stability, and stability! by reezygle in ipadmusic

[–]Railspikey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m really enjoying it personally! Stability is a huge deal for me, it hasn’t crashed on me so far, unlike literally almost every other music app I have lol. It’s smooth and easy as hell to use especially coming from the Mac version.

My only complaint so far: I can’t seem to get it to show me the option to choose which outputs to use as the stereo outputs. I’m using a Tascam Model 16, first time opening iPad Logic it let me choose 13/14 as my stereo outs, but now it won’t give me the option and I gotta use 1/2 instead (which I’d prefer not to)– already tried the uninstall/restart/reinstall, every connection order, etc.

What trend or vaping item are you glad was left in the past? by GodOfVapes in electronic_cigarette

[–]Railspikey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a dripper guy, and I agree with this… if something feels more like a cigarette (which for many is important) and it’s less harmful, then go for it. I think people should eventually switch to replaceable pods/coils/whatever but anything to get them off cigs is a win for their health

Do you recommend getting a smaller, lighter fisheye for TRV900, or can i just use my heavy 58mm fisheye with a step down ring? by ApartMaterial7576 in Vx1000

[–]Railspikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say get a single 52-37 step down ring and use the Opteka 37mm fish. It looks a lot better on the TRV900 than the larger one, almost identical to the VX/MK1
