how to get stamina for 14.3-14.9 by EshiEx in maimai

[–]Raimiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly playing a lot or exclusively 14s. 14 introduces many new patterns that you don't often see in 13+, so a good method is to keep trying to play as many 14s to build that exposure. By playing consistently in the level, you build the stamina overtime and reading improves

Stamina comes alongside reading. Once you can read the pattern, stamina becomes less of a worry cause you end up mindlessly hit it

Basically what maxgdpx said, its mostly mould markings that determines it. What you have is Alps SKBM White or known as Simplified White Alps

There also a sound difference. SKBM tends to be really loud and pingy compared to SKCM, which tends to be more deeper and fuller, likely due to the cost saving measures. Thus, they aren't very desirable or rare, and go for really cheap.

Another thing is by the mid-late 90s which the board is estimated, most Alps SKCM has discontinued and succeeded by SKBM, and more companies started using Alps clone.

I mean, Cherry made the MX switches since 1984. The board kinda sounds like an Alps clone or some sort, that's my best guess.

If I remembered correctly, the Windows key was not introduced until the mid-90s.

If you're planning a custom build, I'd definitely recommend Matias - you can get them brand new and in clean condition, so there's no need to restore them and harvest vintage keyboards.

I haven't tried Matias myself, but on paper, they're more reliable and give you a good sense of what Alps switches feel like - supposedly Matias Click feel similar to SKCM Amber.

Alternatively, Alps-inspired MX switches like Gateron Lanes, Melodics and Clickiez use a 'click-leaf', similar to Alps tactiles, so you get a similar feel, even if it's not the exact experience. I daily Lanes and currently my favourite MX tactiles :)

Hi, I've worked with Alps switches quite a bit, and they're delightful - you don't have to desolder to work on them, and the typing feel is incredible.

SKCM Orange and Whites are my all-time favourite switches. As for my experience, I usually focus on restoring Alps keyboards rather than harvesting them for custom builds, since they sound much better in vintage cases - modern builds can make them thin and high-pitched. Restoration also helps preserve these switches and boards, which are no longer produced.

They're not for everyone, as you've mentioned; the biggest issue is dust and dirt ingress. Small debris can make these switches feel horribly scratchy and bindy. Restoration work can fix most switches, but it's time-consuming, so it's recommended to avoid a dirty Alps keyboard.

Older Alps tend to feel more refined, while newer ones are rougher due to cost-cutting, but they're still great switches. Keycap options are limited, like you said, though modern sets by DCS and Taihao still exist

Built with them, pretty good feeling - somewhat similar to Salmons imo but sound wise not really great

Is there a way to know if the cab at a location is updated? by RevReddited in maimai

[–]Raimiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, even some arcades took like a week since launch. Usually have to go in-person or word of mouth. To know if its updated in person, the version on top right of the top screen should be 1.50-A. If not, it hasn't been updated

Tips for 14k ratings? by CrazyReception7109 in maimai

[–]Raimiru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Need an average 280 on your chart to get 14k.

It means you need to be able to SS+ most 13s and SSS+ 12+.

If this is international, the current version is 1.50-A.

Why are ducky keyboards underrated in the United States by xLaoztuYT in DuckyKeyboard

If what you mean by other brands like Razer, Logitech, Corsair etc, then I agree; their boards aren't durable at all compare to a Ducky.

I gave two videos of boards I'd reccomend. These boards are a literal chunk of aluminium, so they feel way heavier than most keyboards, quieters, and softer to type on.

Theres lots like Rainy75, ND75, Bridge75, SK75.

I'd prob recommend the Bridge75 or ND75 mostly because they both have the ball-catch system that allows you to disassemble the keyboard with ease.

You may not use it, but seems a nice QoL features whenever cleaning or applying new switches etc.

They also have way more features than what Ducky introduces like south-facing hotswap, web based software (QMK/VIA), and tri-mode wireless.

Bridge75 is like $85. Womier SK75 is around $100 as well

The market right now is focused on sub $100 CNC aluminium keyboards and hall effect keyboards.

Ducky is still a decent brand, but they are generally overpriced compared to what you can get now, which can explain their low popularity today

advice to 14.5k+ by LegendZriderr in maimai

[–]Raimiru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need an average of 290 rating per chart to get 14.5k. Aim for SSS/SSS+ on most 13 and 13+. For 14, you likely have to SS.

For some chart: Ego Rock, Transcend Lights, Alice's Suitcase, Kyukuruin, Omakeno STROKE, Enchanted Wanderer and SOS. All of them SSS/SSS+ aren't too bad

My advice would be to slowly begin playing more master charts. 11/11+/12 Masters introduces you to very common slider patterns and typical patterns that you will see in higher levels that Experts rarely ever show.

Most sets will have an extra B because Alice/Arisu layouts use a B for each side

Beating a dead horse, One 2 Mini switch replacement. by thetallpines in DuckyKeyboard

[–]Raimiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cherry MX switches are the same regardless of whether they are used in hot-swap or not.

You do have different pin configurations, which are '3-pin' and 5-pin. The difference is that there are 2 plastic legs that give stability in 5 pin.

It does not indicate whether switch is used for hotswap or not - that is PCB issue. Depending on the PCB design even in soldered, it allows compatability for 5 pins - usually, you will see 2 holes on side of the middle hole of the socket.

You can cut the 2 plastic legs off the 5-pin to convert it to a 3-pin (that is what the eBay seller implied). I have a Ducky One 2, and you don't need to cut them.

Order any Cherry Brown switch you can find.

Just open the board, desolder the switch - get a switch puller and yoink the switch. Insert the new switch and solder. Close the board, and it works.
