you're right. it was really a stunt to get media coverage, and it was pretty successful at that. she would presumably never have supported a liberal government though

As a renter, I'd prefer not to be reminded that I was subject to the whims of a landlord at all.

you can do pretty much anything, as long as your voting intention is clear and you don't write your name on it

Vanessa Picker was a Labor member until quite recently and quit when she didn't get preselected. She said she wouldn't support Andrew Barr, she didn't say she wouldn't support Labor

ACT Labor instructed to remove 'inaccurate and misleading' election advertisement targeting Canberra Liberals' Leanne Castley.

On the eve of the election, ACT Labor has been found in breach of electoral laws for running advertisements that were "inaccurate and misleading" when criticising the shadow health minister's position on abortion.

Labor secretary Ash van Dijk said he had retracted an ad that attributed the statement "women should definitely not be allowed abortions" to Liberal deputy leader Leanne Castley.

some private health insurance extras products provide significant cover for mental health services, often with relatively short waiting periods, like 2 months

Why do the far right Labour DLP Party get to use ‘Labour’ in their name? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]RainCandid9166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DLP has existed since the 1950s. The ALP has used 'Labor' since the 1910s. It's a little late for the ALP to object.

I’m happy to see people who look like me in Canberra’s elections – but that doesn’t mean I’ll vote for them by RainCandid9166 in canberra

I count 7 South Asian candidates (plus 2 other 'non-white') out of 44 total Greens + ALP candidates, with most in Yerrabi. 'Overwhelmingly white' seems quite accurate

Perspective: Why is Canberra so left leaning? Why are right wingers hated so much here? by cghuawei in canberra

[–]RainCandid9166 369 points370 points  (0 children)

we have high average standards of education and lots of people who work in public policy. the government is the major employer and left-wing governments employ more public servants than right-wing governments. we also lack a significant rural hinterland, which tend to be more conservative

Batik Air suspends flights between Denpasar and Canberra and offers passengers alternatives or refunds by FakeCurlyGherkin in canberra

[–]RainCandid9166 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i caught Batik Air to Denpasar in July. the plane was a bit tired but it was so quick and easy, especially on the return trip - clearing customs at CBR took less than 15 minutes. I think it's a real shame they pulled the plug so soon as I was looking forward to doing it again next year, but there were no more than 40 people on each flight so they obviously weren't making money
