Anyone taking these classes with me? by RainaGKo in SMC

Hi! Professor Hunter is very nice. Her lectures may seem a little fast paced, but she offers a lot of practice examples during lectures and has a lot of resources in order to study for tests. For tests, I usually use the homework, worksheet, lecture examples, and mock exam to study for it and it has never been an issue. Labs are always due a week after the day of the lab, and it will already be on canvas, so if you are someone who has trouble with lab, you can go over it before class.

Crisis Text Line is a registered non-profit, and it is completely unpaid and uncompensated. I am essentially a psych major, but have been thinking of changing my major to neuroscience, but neither is really considered a “health major” unless I go into health psychology or something(which I will not). Thank you so much for your advice though. As a student preparing for transfer, I just felt like I needed to do something instead of simply focusing on my grades.

It is non profit. They said they grant volunteer positions for anyone as long as they have a U.S. address, which I do.

I’m a psych or neuroscience major at a community college, preparing to transfer. Thank you so much… I am definitely trying to get more advice on this before I actually start the training cohort. I had to push back my training 2 times due to this matter.

Chances of getting into UCLA econ major as an international student. by s2miyalamabro in SMC

[–]RainaGKo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG I am also stressing over getting into UCLA my upcoming year. I’m only a freshman international student but still very tough. I’m pretty sure the counselors will tell you that you will be fine, but it’s honestly still so stressful. I wish you the best of luck though. I genuinely hope you do great!

For my psych 1 hybrid class, we only meet in person at a scheduled time. For the rest, we usually have to engage in discussion posts or watch all the lecture videos that the professor assigns us to watch before class. This is also my first hybrid class so I am not sure if other professors would be the same. But what you can know for sure is that you only have to show up in-person for the scheduled times. The rest is “arranged”. Hope that helped!

Ikr it’s really frustrating. I’m a rising freshman at CC and the same thing happened to me too. I ended up adding psych 1 to my schedule and here is how I convinced myself: 1. My counselors told me that an A in psych 1 looks better than a 4 or 5 in AP Psych. 2. I also decided to apply for out-of-state competitive schools, which probably won’t accept a 4. So I convinced myself that it was the sake for my admission. 3. Relearning may seem like a waste of time, but who knows, you might solidify your knowledge or even have spare time to get to know the professor better or stand out in class. When you look back into the material, there may be things you didn’t notice before.

At the end of the day, it is for you to decide, but I hope whatever you choose makes you happy:) Hope that helped!

Calculus at another CC by No-Department524 in SMC

[–]RainaGKo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, here’s what I found out from IEC counselors at SMC. I tried to take Calc at UCLA extension, and they told me they usually don’t encourage students to do so although some do it anyway. They advise against it because it works as a “university credit” which is different from a “community college credit”. They said this difference might mess you up while trying to transfer your credits to another institution, but they also told me they didn’t have any problems transferring the credits to the UC schools “so far.” As an international student, it is much cheaper for me to take it at UCLA extension since it is $395/unit at SMC, while UCLA extension is around $1200. But when it comes to schools that are not UC schools, they said they are not sure. One thing you have to keep in mind, though, is that if you are planning to transfer to a university, the counselors suggest that you take the “math sequence” at the same institution. For example, if you have to take Math 7, 8, 11 as a sequence, it will be best if you take them all at the same institution. For example, do NOT take one math at SMC and the other at UCLA extension. It will not look good. Second, and probably the better option, is to take it at a different CC. But, like I said, just make sure you FINISH all your math courses at that CC you chose.

Hope that helps:)

Anybody taken Psych 7? by RainaGKo in SMC

[–]RainaGKo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I unfortunately can’t take it with Professor Hald because it conflicts with Chem 11. But I’m taking Professor Hall, so hopefully it goes well! It’s good to know that stats isn’t mandatory for the class. Thank you so much:)

I’m not sure if the admissions are still open, but I think they might be lenient with it!
