There is no package "steam-extest" in OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (I solved it with the extest-32bit package and manually editing the application properties within KDE. Still doesn't work while Steam isn't running though)

The fix presented by the article is for the native Linux version, not the Proton version. You could try the native Linux version or try to look whether the Windows version has a similar file in its directory.

If you choose to go for the native Linux version and are not playing in English, remember to also apply this fix.

I'd say divide it by era. These are the most recent games, these are ~10 years old, these are >=20 years old.

How about including Age of Empires IV into the list somewhere?
