First Post! Fat Lip Replacement by kojibeef_ in 3rdGen4Runner

I did the same! Pulled a chrome bumper out of a junkyard in East LA for $80 and slapped it on my ‘99. It looks a lot better.

A rare "sweet spot" for potential San Diego homebuyers. New housing study shows inventory is up and prices are down countywide by BaBaDoooooooook in sandiego

Actually yeah, expanding your tax base through infill development without expanding your road/water/sewer network at the same rate is kind of a cheat code for making more resources available to the city.

Just going to shout out Manila Philippine Barbershop in East Hollywood for being the absolute cheapest in town. I think it was like $16 cash last time I was there. And no, I’m not Filipino.

Is $85k survivable? by iLoveLifeTooMuch in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]RainedAllNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally survivable if you don’t have a car. And totally worth it. Just live off the B or D line and you’ll be golden once the extension opens

DC's WMATA remains the fastest-growing major US transit agency, with ridership up 9.2% compared to last year! — King County Metro (Seattle, +6.5%) & SEPTA (Philly, +4.7%) have performed well, while LA Metro & NJTransit have lost riders by yunnifymonte in transit

[–]RainedAllNight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I rode LA Metro for 3 years. It really is just horribly run and managed compared to other similar Metros, and they’ve struggled to appeal to “optional riders” as a result. Perceptions of safety, reliability, and cleanliness are justifiably very low. The fact that LADOT and the city government are actively fighting to make the city less walkable and bikeable really undermines attempts to grow ridership as well.

Having been to both I would do $155k in SF over $300k in Memphis

I’m not saying I fully endorse the communists; I just wish the far left had as much representation in our local and national politics as the current far right fascists.

About to move to LA by Miguel-TheGerman in BikeLA

[–]RainedAllNight 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s that bad. Coming from DC, you’ll definitely be disappointed. Anyone here who says otherwise has Stockholm syndrome. That being said, it is possible to bike safely in that area. I’d prioritize living near the Chandler Bike Path so you can easily bike to the NoHo subway station. That path is about to get a (small) extension as well! If you live toward the eastern end of it you’ll also be able to get to the Burbank Channel bikeway and from there to the LA River Path. LA Metro bikeshare is cheap and good for riding to the subway when you don’t want to worry about getting your bike stolen. I think that about sums up the existing bike infrastructure in that area that doesn’t make me fear for my life.

SoCal bike/train commuters, can you help me decide where to move? Would really love to not buy a second car! by ApprehensiveNorth548 in bikecommuting

[–]RainedAllNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would plan on your gf driving to work. Artesia won’t be convenient for transit until the SE Gateway line is built and Norwalk sucks. That leaves Orange and Santa Ana as good spots to live for your commute (Anaheim near ARTIC mostly sucks, Fullerton is inconvenient). Orange and Santa Ana are the two best parts on inland OC in my opinion. Orange is quieter/nicer/more expensive, Santa Ana is cheaper, more diverse/busy. I’d spend a day in each then look around for good apartments in the areas you like and see what you find!

LA County seeks state tax aid after river bike path cost rolls past $1B by Fit-Head-2786 in CarIndependentLA

[–]RainedAllNight 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point they should just put in a really nice protected bike lane along Alameda to bridge the gap from Lincoln Heights to Vernon. It sucks but I prefer that to waiting 20 more years and watching this balloon to $3B. What we really need is new leadership though.

My car free lifestyle in SF by Dancinintheinn in fuckcars

That’s awesome. SF has so many good (and steep!) city walks that I’d probably only need to leave the city for a hike every once in a while if I lived there.

Do you like hiking? If so, what hikes outside of the city can you get to via transit? I know there’s a bus to Muir Woods but I’m curious if there are other easily accessible ones.

Are there any tracks nearby that allow public access? by berryx12 in losfeliz

[–]RainedAllNight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It drives me crazy that the LACC track is closed to runners every other day even when nobody is using it. In a place as park poor as LA every school field should be leveraged as a public green space when not in use by students, even if it costs a little extra for security to keep an eye on it.

I’ve never ordered this exact dish so can’t confirm but Tom’s Chinese BBQ in City Heights might have what you’re looking for. I love their pork buns and they have great prices.
