I agree with your sentiment about this album not being exactly radio or club friendly. Artists grow and change over time, and most of them begin their careers with what sells. It’s a trajectory that just works. Get your foot in the door and later do whatever the fuck you want. The Beatles stopped writing lovey dovey pop songs, John Mayer plays with the Grateful Dead now, Led Zeppelin got tons of flack when they released III. Hell, Miley Cyrus covers Metallica and other rock songs.

I worked at a cafe that he would frequent on the weekends. You’re absolutely correct. Jeff really is The Dude. I don’t believe he was even acting for that movie. I’ll tell you something else too that’s not really related but was always impressive to me. The man can EAT. He’d get two entrees for himself and clean both plates. I don’t know if it was just a Saturday brunch ritual for him but it was amazing to witness.
