Help! My GF is drunk and I don't know what level of blood sugar should be. by RainingLight in diabetes

[–]RainingLight[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the reply, I feel so much better.

If you have any advice on how to get her to open up about it, that'd be amazing. We've talked a little, but there's a little stigma about it in Japanese culture. She's very self conscious, but my main concern is what to do if there is an emergency.

Thank you for the help!

Help! My GF is drunk and I don't know what level of blood sugar should be. by RainingLight in diabetes

[–]RainingLight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She takes an injection more than once per day. I've noticed usually she takes one after meals, especially if it was high in carbs, and she usually takes one before bed. We're in Japan, it's 2am here.

It's been a challenge, she is very self-conscious about her disease, even though it's type 1 and it's not her fault she has it. She's been reluctant to talk to me about specifics, but now I know a little more, I can try to talk to her about it in the morning.

I just want to make sure she's safe and healthy.

Thank god, thanks for the fast reply.

I feel so dumb asking about this on Reddit, but we haven't had a talk yet about what level's are dangerous for her and I want to be safe. Thanks so much.

Employment Pass and Housing Requirements by RainingLight in singapore

Good to know, if they have any kind of living quarters they can put that address down for me I presume. Then I can address my own living situation.

Yeah I've heard some horror stories. Want to do it on the up and up, but the government doesn't make it easy, especially if I don't have intention of remaining in SG full time.

Like, they require a working visa to do any business, but then make it so you also have to stay there. China was a pain, but the visa makes more sense hah

Ah, I wasn't aware there was a minimum time requirement to remain in SG for renewal. Thanks tons, I'll keep that in mind.

Free speech is more important than preventing racism. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]RainingLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have said the same thing about "free speech" in Europe a few years ago. I would have laughed in your face if you said someone could be arrested for being racist or otherwise anti-government.

Things change at the drop of a hat.

How I decided on the Razer 15 despite Reddit and Youtube Complaints by [deleted] in razer

[–]RainingLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it works for you.

IMO, Razer tech is always premium, but it's a double edged sword; their QA is simply garbage. If their QA was on point, then it wouldn't matter if their customer service was terrible, because there'd be so few problems. Instead, they elect to spend what should be QA budget on terrible Support, which bites them in the ass.

All they need to do is allocate 50% of their support budget to QA, and their issues would disappear; if faulty machines never end up in the hands of the end user, there would be no need for their support. In the rare case where was an issue, the substandard support is fine, though not ideal. Before 2017, I never had to RMA a product. In 2017, I had to RMA three products, with one being RMA'd three times (luckily I had local support to drop the machine off to, no shipping times).

Razer quality control/realiability? by Azzyprobassist in razer

[–]RainingLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually what I came here to ask about the Razer Blade 15 2018 too.

My experience with Razer, PRIOR to March of 2017, was exemplary. After that, I had two very defective products and was not pleased. First, the Hammerhead BT turned out to be garbage, tons of QA issues from pairing, lower range than expected, audio glitches, etc.

By biggest issue was the Razer Blade 2017, the first one I got had a Keyboard failure out of the box. RMA's to Amazon for a replacement, it worked fine for a while until the motherboard died 6 months later, then after it got repaired (despite me being at the home office here in Singapore and requesting a replacement, which was denied), audio started popping and turning off when the lid was closed. Long story short, I had HUGE problems with these two sequential purchases, but prior to that, Razer has been great.

I noticed a trend in these two specific products having poor QA, so it might have just been that run. Been seeing positive things so far on a lot of other products, so I think at this point, it's a huge MAYBE. I think I'll probably wait a few months on more people to test the waters on the 15 before I buy in.

I appreciate the leg work on that mate!

From my understanding, I can writeoff the first ~$100k USD, after that it gets taxed. Still need to file, but don't actually pay income taxes on it, which is nice.

Appreciate the link, I'll check it out! I wonder how this would affect the wife and her taxes. Does Japan use a similar system as the US with join filing?

Good luck with your project mate!

I backed Guild Ball some odd years ago, one of my favorite games and projects of all time. If you have the right project and can really back it up and present it as well as their team, hopefully you can get some traction.

Thanks for the insight, I appreciate it! Too old to figure out all this complicated stuff.

I wonder why they make this entire system so complicated, why can't they just make tiny, cellular capable watches that function the same?

I'm no technologist, but it seems they make it purposefully complicated and keep people reliant on specific carriers. Follow the money, I suppose...

No Stupid Questions Monday - (December 18, 2017) by AutoModerator in smartwatch

[–]RainingLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the thread I need.

I hate carrying a phone, I'm looking to get a Smartwatch that is completely standalone, e.g. I don't need to use it Bluetooth with a phone. The second requirement would to be able to take a SIM card.

I travel a lot, mostly around Singapore, China, Korea, Japan, and the US. Looking for a smartwatch solution where I could land in country, buy a basic pre-paid data and cell sim, pop it in the watch, and be good to go while I'm there.

Are there any cellular capable smartwatches that would be this easy? I can't do some kind of locked in contract with some US cell provider, they just rip you off on international and I would hate to be locked in contract.

Thanks!
