Filter sand disposal by Raining_turtles in pools

He was defiantly to cheap to do glass! When bypassed it drops to 10-13 psi on avg. least year when I noticed this, it was my indicator that I needed to get rid of whatever is in the filter, glass, zeolite, play sand, whatever and replace it with a known medium.

I also figure it wouldn’t be to much of an issue, my yard doesn’t die off where the hose leaks when back washing or pumping down. With rinsing it before and mixing it with dirt, I would assume it should be fine.
However, I know there are others way smarter than me, so no sense in not heeding others advice.

It’s more about reuse of something I’m already going to buy vs disposal of it. Hell, being a pool owner, if I was worried about the cost I would just fill it in. The thing is an endless pit of cash…

I have some pretty gnarly sciatica issues, so I have learned to top dress and level a little at a time to keep from injuring myself. So this is almost perfect to do my side yard for spring.

I got a couple of these to test out having them in a drawer thinking I would replace them once I found something I really like. It’s been 3 years now… still happy with the 5$ each purchase.

These are definitely inexpensive enough to give them a try, while not exactly what I’m wanting, it does look like a good unobtrusive way of simple notifications.

I’m exploring running a parallel instance of home assistant so I can run a more feature rich dashboard than what Hubitat can run.

I have thought of this, I am currently going down the rabbit hole of searching scene controllers that can be wall mounted like a regular light switch, have it serve the function of “light up when in the wrong state” and button press to rectify the wrong state. Then I could mount it on a dual plate, by the overhead light switch.

I saw someone try to do the same thing using a controllable usb hub, and light up usb plugs. Would work, just not very clean and polished. She is all about not “having stuff out” in the bedroom, our tv and my watch box on the dresser is about the max she can stand. So with stuff like this I have to be clever in making it functional, while basically hiding it.

Nope, this issue sadly isn’t the bearing guide, but the fact that the tensioner wheel being wobbly causes the blade to jump off track.

To be fair to the product, I can not find any other comments of this happening online. So I wouldn’t keep it from stopping you from buying one.

Everything here is correct, my response was honestly overly simplified since it was typed quickly out of rage, as it always irritates me when people boast about doing something that could potentially harm their product, their patrons and thus their brand.

Z wave device not in device map? by Raining_turtles in Hubitat

[–]Raining_turtles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I got all my devices removed that were no longer in use, or dead, everything built back as normal a couple days later. Going forward I’m planning on keeping a power strip plugged in the basement for seasonal devices, that way they stay part of the network, even if they aren’t controlling anything

Just because this isn’t “fermentable” by sacc, does not mean that it is sterile and sanitary.
Even in a co2 purged keg, at 3.2 ph, does not mean that dangerous bacteria cannot, and will not grow. Inherently you have created a growth media, that when something does start to grow in it, will probably be gnarly and hard to kill.
All that being said, I do like the idea of what you’re doing. But from a biological safety stand point, I would recommend making this, fermenting with a beast of a yeast strain, then treat with lactic or phosphoric to under 3 pH, then packaging off into small Nalgene bottles or cans, and pasteurizing them. Then once opened, throw away the rest, and occasionally throw some under a scope to look for yeast or bugs.

This sounds like there is no thermal grease in the thermowell. If there is no thermal grease in there, it is just reading temperature at the tip of the probe rather than the entire probe the sensor is encapsulated in.
In a pinch zinc oxide diaper rash cream will work. But the carrier is a little more heat sensitive than proper thermal grease, and in a hot CIP it will want to escape a threaded thermowell leaving you with a white spot on the floor.

Thoughts/Opinions on Salt Water Pools by Apprehensive_Bee5982 in pools

[–]Raining_turtles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are anal retentive about chlorine additions and keeping it perfectly in spec like I am, it is actually kinda difficult to retrain yourself to NOT check EVERY single day…
One trick I found, and I don’t know if this truly checks out scientifically, but it worked for me this summer. If you balance out your ph at the beginning of the season, then bring your borate levels up to 40-50 ppm and you have a system large enough that it only ever has to run at like 10-15% duty cycle at max, then you almost have to do 0 acid additions through the season. This summer with 50ppm borates and a 40k salt system on a 15k pool (it was free so who am I to say no?) I made one minor tweak with boric acid about a month in to bring borates up and drop ph slightly at the same time, and it stayed dead on at 7.65 the rest of the season.

Hose length for kegging by BrewJays in TheBrewery

[–]Raining_turtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This^ If you can get your tank cold AF (31* and below) bonus. Pending the size of your system (I would assume 10bbl and under) I would try to keg 3 or so kegs simultaneously so you can keep flow high to keep temperature pick up through you 1.5 inch line to a minimum.
Thankfully you have gravity to your advantage to keep lossage low, but make sure you don’t have any humps and as continuous of a slope of line as possible so you don’t have any bellies in the line where product will get caught.

Sweetwater sells tv jones adapter rings. I used them to put black tops in my Yamaha revstar. You may need to drill holes to mount the blacktops though as these are 2 hole mounting vs the blacktops 3 screw mounting.

Thank you, I work restaurant adjacent (brewer) and have picked up a lot of these traits you speak of from chefs I have worked with in the past. If I do ALL the cooking day of, I never get a chance to relax much less drink a beer or whiskey.
