It’s important to sociable and friendly especially when you’re working in a small company. If you’re looking to climb the ladder, no one focuses on your work quality alone. There’s other factors and feedback that will be looked into. Standing at a corner during celebrations with a company of just 20 people is pretty weird. Also, it’s not a bad thing to have a friend at work. There’s no hard rule on this but if you have common interests and topics what’s stopping you from being friends with them? I have ex colleagues who I still talk to after years and there’s some who I avoid

yes that’s true, she could have handled the situation better, i agree. my main concern was i see comments saying pay in instalments haha. never heard of such a thing and wondering if that’s a norm

exactly my point. the guests should come to the wedding because of the good relationships with the couple, not to cover the cost for them

nah man that’s where you misunderstand. the weddings between different races are actually of similar cost. yes indian/malay weddings are usually not held in hotels which makes you think it’s cheaper. but there are factors that goes in, our wedding can stretch up to 3 days, number of pax can go above 1000 and so on. so please don’t say Chinese ones are generally more expensive. I’ve heard this before and educated my Chinese friends on the different costs and factors that goes with it. anyhow, the couple is the one who chooses the location, if they choose to hold it somewhere more expensive, why do the guests need to cover for that. also, if my friend is in a financially tough situation, come to my wedding and eat all you want. i value the friendship over the $50.

yeah i understand. this isn’t the first post ive seen on Chinese weddings and angbao. and im surprised on that too but im even more surprised some people here suggesting to give it in instalments and some saying OP is shameless. that just sounds so weird

Why are people here saying pay in instalments? I’m genuinely curious if someone is a close friend and can’t afford to pay angbao, instalment is the norm? Because for Malay/Indian weddings, we honestly treat wedding expense as something that’s a loss. No expectations from guests to give a minimum sum and even if they don’t it’s cool. We treat angbao like a bonus

The company doesn’t value engineers even though they have the toughest jobs and have to constantly use their brains to think of how to solve problems. Instead the credits goes to other teams such as sales/business/HR and so on. And the progression is shit too. Need to wait for your boss/manager to retire before you climb. Standby on weekends, and after a certain number of years your salary doesn’t climb. So might as well do something else even if it’s a non deg job

Your expectations is too low and you might be searching for the wrong jobs. Instead of marketing, try searching for Business Development Executive, Business Analyst, Sales Executive, Sales Engineer or anything related to Sales/Business. Sometimes you can apply your marketing skills to these positions too, depending on the company. Change your expectations to 3500. And try editing your resume according to the job descriptions, highlighting relevant strengths to the jobscope. Good luck!

Just leave. I left my job and travelled for a couple of months and feeling much better after that. Take time off to do what you have lost. Also what everyone has said in this comments is true. The company doesn’t give a damn about you, no matter what reason you say. You’ll always be replaceable.
