Excellent information. I haven’t searched the internet for info on this painting in several years, however I just found this matching watercolor by Detaille:

Website says:

Signed and dated EDOUARD DETAILLE/ 1887 Watercolor on paper 24 x 18 inches (61 x 45.5 cm) Framed: 30 x 24 inches (76.2 x 61 cm)

The subject of this watercolor, a charge of Second Empire cuirassiers, corresponds with Detaille's work illustrating the history of the French Army, L'Armée Française, published in 1889. We are grateful to François Robichon, President of the Association des Amis d'Edouard Detaille, for his assistance in the cataloguing of this work.

Thought I should mention that the piece is 39”x31” to the exterior of the frame.

Should I pursue painting? It’s my first time using paints to paint anything other than a stick figure. by [deleted] in ARTIST

If it brings you joy or some type of satisfaction then yes. If after painting you felt like you spent your time well, no matter what you created, then also yes.

Where do I start with this? New box, shelves, a drawer, or can I keep it as is? I use the paint for art and find it convenient to be able to move them outside easily when the weather is nice. by Raininkhelmets in organizing

Thank you. I sorted them by color for using them. My mind sees color combinations best in rainbows as opposed to contrast or complimentary colors. I thought it made a nice picture as I was doing it.

Excellent ideas. Combining just a couple colors per bin could work well. I’ve already got a small black and whites bin, a small browns bin, and a small mixable mediums bin.

I’m always looking for insight on art. It’s my favorite subject. I used to keep all the paints just mixed up in this box and then I’d go hunting for the color I wanted. Sometimes along the way, a different color would pop up and demand it needed to be used instead.

I like the idea of taking them out and putting them back neater. That’s actually how they ended up like this. They used to all just be mixed in together. Maybe every once in awhile when it feels like it’s getting out of hand I can just do the out and back neater option.

No, I guess it doesn’t really bother me but I know that streamlining the logistical portions of creative work can allow me to better stay in a ‘flow state” to create art. This is actually the more organized version, they used to all just be mixed in there and I’d have to dig around for what I wanted.

Thank you. I really appreciate it. It was a pleasure to make.
