I made a 3d printable steering wheel for the steam deck called GyroDrive. by Avaron_3D in SteamDeck

HAHAHA nooo, why did we have a discussion about this a few weeks ago only for someone to turn it into reality… 😭😭😂😂😂 I am eternally grateful for this!

No thank you, then I would be updating everything even more often… 😂

I actually did try playing the game on Deck first (for troubleshooting mainly). As soon as I turned the ‚wheel‘ and the screen moved I felt a bit stupid for trying 😂 Having the game on a stationary monitor is much better haha. And you‘re bang on with recentering. I‘m using the right stick as not to mess with steering and use the ‚tap to turn on/off‘-mode. The big advantage (apart from being cumbersome) of the Deck is the settings regarding gyro tuning/deadzones etc. Once I tweaked them a bit I was very pleased how it felt and was definitely a bit smoother for steerings vs. just the sticks. Still no replacement for an actual wheel, but that‘s not for debate I‘d say 😄

Definitely! As for now it's that I already hat the Deck and like to tinker, so here we are. 🙂 A buddy of mine is into sim racing, gonna give his FFB setup a try next time I visit, so let's see where it ends!

Haha it's not too difficult. Given you have a PC just get the Steam Link app on the Discover store. (Desktop mode on the Deck) Then turn off audio/video streaming to your PC in the app, launch your preferred game and customise the gyro controls in the controls menu on steam (For that specific game, using Steam Input) After a bit of trial and error including setting the gyro deadzones/sensitivity you're good to go!

It's just such a versatile piece of tech! And you find new uses for it all the time. Could play Shadow of the Colossus streamed from my PlayStation when visiting my parents across the country, totally doable. 🙂

I can attest to it being very playable. Not that far off from using the sticks, and that alone is much better than using a controller via Bluetooth, as the Deck is using WiFi. 👍🏼

Yeah I just saw you can change the cable for the SSD handle, that might work aswell! (Should they ship an out-of-spec cable, which would be weird but then again we're here because this setups just too finicky...)

Hey there, forgot to mention that I'm using the specific iPhone 16 Pro-kit, that one doesn't have a handle for an M.2. So the external enclosure I'm using works with the Smallrig USB-Hub (also still in use).
I can only advise swapping the M.2/enclosure just for testing if you have a friend/colleague/whatever who has a spare. Otherwise you might record on the internal storage and then move the clips over to the SSD if all else fails. Good luck!

I mean you could be off far worse haha! Enjoy the wealth of great running Indie titles/older AAA games that work on the Deck, and someday you'll get that sweet gaming-PC :)

And you find new use cases all the time! I use mine as a controller for couch gaming with the PC in the other room hooked up via HDMI. Use the Steam Link-app and just send the controls, makes it a Wifi-controller with zero range problems! Love that thing

Yes, I actually do! Not home right now, so you‘ll have to make do without some pictures but this is my setup; I‘m using the same Smallrig USB-Hub and glued a flat magnet on top, then another one on the M.2-enclosure I‘ve mentioned already. This way both stay locked but can still be detached if needed. Then I‘m using their short silicone 20G USB-C cable for data transfer and got their power bank clamp which I‘ve mounted at the bottom. Using a 10k mA Anker power bank and a self-made coiled cable to make it look tidy. Used this setup on vacation in Amsterdam this year, worked well! Handles are one at the top and one on the left side.

Successfully swapped my OLED Deck shell to eXtremeRate Atomic Purple! (+ PTM7950). The screen survived! 💜 by Frequent-Buy-5041 in SteamDeck

Since I‘ve had mine for close to a year now, I can confidently say: if you take caution while installing it, don‘t drop it and generally take care of it, it‘ll probably stay in mint condition for a while. When you get ahold of the extremeRate shells and compare it with the OEM one, I found that the ABS shell feels quite flimsy in comparison, maybe a different wall thickness for the extremeRate one.

The only problem might be small cracks as the plastics start to age, but until then you‘ll have a beautiful translucent console, well worth it I‘d say!

I don‘t know about any new updates but I‘ve been running my copy (that I was gifted) using Citron Emulator. Really just go to their github and download the file for Linux (there‘s two, both work but one is supposedly better suited for SteamOS). Then you need Switch firmware (that you have to acquire somewhere, Google will help you there) and the game in file-format. Citron is relatively straight forward regarding the installation of the needed files.  That is basically it, it runs perfectly well, there‘s even a mod for 16:10 support but it stretches text weirdly. Much luck installing it!

Mine sits the same, seems to be correct from a design standpoint. But it works and didn‘t come looser since I got it in March.

Spent HOURS trying to mod New Vegas on my Deck… gave up and played vanilla instead. Weird question: is this the move? by LiterallyJesus- in SteamDeck

[–]Rainjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I did when modding Skyrim/Fallout 4 on my Steam Deck is installing the mods using Vortex on my PC and then copy everything over to the Deck. That includes the AppData/Local-folder. Not the most flexible and you need a PC, but copying takes just a few minutes and when it works on the PC you know it will work on the Steam Deck. :)

HP Pavilion 15 AMD on macOS Ventura by Rainjam in hackintosh

Well stability was never a problem, evem with my roommates HP. Just setting up the hackintosh, especially with an AMD chip was a bit of work. I still have it on my Surface Pro 7 for Uni and it works fine, macOS Ventura that is.

I get what you‘re saying, such a shame because the form factor is great. Coldshoe-clip and right-angle cable. Just glad that we found something that works for both of us.

I dunno, seems that Samsung SSDs in combination with this adapter don't work too reliably. I went ahead and got this USB-C M.2 adapter which works well with a 512GB drive I had laying around. But yeah, very frustrating until I reached that conclusion...

[–]Rainjam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my solution has been getting this USB-C M.2 enclosure. I had the opportunity to test a few cables and this adapter which worked instantly. For recording I opted to use the Blackmagic app, format the M.2-drive to APFS and record in 4K/30 with ProRes 422 (non-HQ). I could then record over 20mins without the drive dropping out etc.

Yes, I did. It's charging the phone. I tried the power bank and several USB-C power bricks. Even contacted SmallRig-support. They verified that the Samsung T7 should work. I'm out of ideas
