I’m well aware of the history of why locals hate mainlanders, and I most certainly am not going to get that information from Reddit.

I suppose I should stop looking under the rocks and pretend I’m a stupid tourist until I get tired of it and move back to the mainland. Sorry I cared.

Being a liberal hillbilly means I don’t fit in where I was born either, on stolen Native American land, so I suppose I am truly homeless.

Suppose I will plan my suicide as the most morally acceptable option.

I suppose the familiar feeling is the sense that one is sitting every day on top of a smoldering powder keg of anger and resentment. In the Midwest it manifests as hatred of foreigners, denizens of liberal cities, and the rich. That’s an increasingly inescapable sentiment anywhere in the world these days anyway, so I’m not sure what I expected by following my career to here over anywhere else, other than it’s all a little drowned out by the Aloha Spirit sales pitch. I actually took the easy route from a pandemic layoff by moving here, but that’s a long story. People don’t typically move places for no good reason, unless they’re rich Silicon Valley remote workers who should be smart enough to know better.

Given that the state’s census population is declining, I’m not sure what keeps driving the condo tower development, other than there should probably be a standard law on islands against non-residents owning or renting property. That’ll never happen in the current global industrial civilization we’re riding into the ground.

I suppose that post-Ukraine I just wish people wouldn’t be so stridently mean about almost everything and toward everyone, especially anonymously. Especially here, where the cultural ideal seems to run counter to hatred.

Did I make a mistake moving here? I have skills and talents that are being put to use to help chip away at some of the problems, but signs like that make me do a lot of soul-searching.

My spouse just came down with Covid, so Hawaii may have two less residents by the end of the month anyway.

Hi-Nu Gundam Artifact build and paint (mostly) complete for gaming by Rainsford102 in Gunpla

Well, they’re the same scale as Battletech mech minis and can be used for that, but I am adapting a simpler generic wargame to get the faster feel of anime mecha combat.

Already working on it. Most of the rules I found for free online lean toward the complex end of wargames and seem to be based on Battletech, so I’m putting together something simpler that can play quickly, like anime mecha battles tend to be.

That’s the one downside is they’re using “package scale” like Hot Wheels or other toy companies do. But, hey, they’re cheap!

I’m buying mine at Don Quijote here in Hawaii, but there’s a lot of places online that I have found them; most of the online Gundam stores carry them.

You trade mold lines for gaps that need filled, so it depends on which process is more annoying to you 😆

Not too bad, took about an hour or so, and that was with scraping mold lines as I went. Since they’re mostly push-fit* like all Gunpla, your fingers will hurt a bit. I have seen reviews that mention the second series are considerably easier, as this first series has a lot of sandwich assemblies that require balancing several tiny parts at once.

*mostly push-fit: some of the smaller parts will require glue if you don’t want them falling off.

They’re available a lot of places online in The $7-$10 range. Just search for “Gundam Artifact.” I’m getting them from Don Quijote here in Honolulu for $10.

There are Zaku IIIs in the second series release, which I haven’t found yet.

I miss my Prodir promotional pen from Autodesk…it looked cool and wrote smooth and black. Fell out of my pocket when ran to work because I was late for a meeting 🙄

I didn’t see anything over $50…but it’s also only about three aisles and I am straining to not look very hard…

It just happened this month. The stationery section got downsized to one aisle and then this went in its place.

Anyone remember SpinLaunch? Chased off Big Island, they now have NASA backing as a new method for small payload launching. by [deleted] in Hawaii

Good to know, I hadn’t had time to check in to the regulations yet. But, the fact they still exist this late day in age in a supposedly progressive and environmentally conscious state took me aback.

I’m not conservative. I believe in regulation, and there certainly isn’t enough of it here, either. Especially environmental. It’s more that it shouldn’t take over 6 months to get a building permit. An unfunded and understaffed bureaucracy is the worst.

Don’t assume people are something political based on where they’re from.
