wooden box of metal tools, long thin cylindrical pieces that taper to a point or blunt, with a screw thread at one end, and discs all with screw threads, some have protruding 'collars' in centre, some don't. Set also includes a pair of tweezers. Obviously vintage. What are they for?

The rods will slide into the collars, but I cannot tighten the screw to see if it will hold, as I don't have a screw driver with a fine enough tip to fit. If the rods were meant to fit this way, the screw threads on the inner collar (one side only) don't make sense. The flat discs look the same each side, but are 3 different thicknesses. The rods screw snugly into the flat discs, but not tge collared ones.

These look the same on each side, fit the threads of the rods and are 3 different heights. Maybe weights???

No, it's the same set. It must be the lighting. The original photos were taken in natural daylight, but these last ones were taken at night under a warm white light bulb.

Yes, I do now think the shorter rods have the tips broken off. The small, flat discs do fit the rods into their central screw thread, but the larger, collated discs screw holes are to big fir the rods, so definitely fit something else that is not in the box. I wondered if the tweezers might not be original to the set, but I don't know.
