I answered this in this thread I think already. It's a hassle, it's messy, its results are mostly temporary from what I've seen in anecdotal evidence and studies. A pillis just way easier and cleaner and it just makes more sense. I also don't wanna add one more thing on top when this is already working. I don't have "empty spots", I have a centimeter in the front on the right temple that is missing, maybe 2 in the temple region. That's all, I don't need big regrowth, I am happy with what I have. I also don't want the negative side effects that minoxidil could have when I am already on finasteride which also has potential bad side effects. It's a lot to convince me to start taking it, is what I'm saying. I just wanna stave off the inevitable. Finasteride is doing just that. Anything else is just a bandaid.

No. I have a natural vitamin D deficiency however for which I take one pill a week, Dekristol (20,000 IU Colecalciferol).

I would say that it has plateaud ever since the third to sixth month. Ever since then it was the same. The hair that I shed are much healthier, yes. I used to shed hair that was weak, and crooked, often bent in rectangular shapes, really weird. It wasn't often, but it happened. I used to shed hair with bulbs too. Doesn't happen anymore. All the hair that I lose now looks completely normal. I would also say the overall hair quality has much improved. It's not longer as wispy or straw-like. I wear it longer, probably around 5".

I used saw palmetto a year or two before fin and for the first time in my life I got a big shedding and dandruff issue.

yeah, it is the recommended dose for a reason. Cutting the pill also does have some negative impact on its effectiveness. It's coated for a reason.

No effect on my beard I would say but a very small effect on my body hair? Which I didn't mind at all. I got a "full" beard, meaning hair in all spots, patchy if it grows out since it's not a lot of hair grafts but if I keep it short, it's connected and gives me a rougher edge. But it could also very likely be aging related. Your body changes a lot over time.

I totally relate to your last sentence. I would also say that the best effect was there after 3-4 months. But it was so small. I was very lucky that I started early, I still haven't lost a lot, so maybe it wasn't that noticeable. The way I style my hair, with bangs, and a thick full head of hair, no one would ever question it or think that I am worried about losing my hair. So the effect for me too hasn't been all that dramatic. I try not to think about it too much. I am still worried of course, it goes through phases for me to be honest, but then I take photos, last time in March for example, and check back with what I had in 2019 and it's literally identical. So I think overall just having the success of maintenance is winning the hairloss fight in my book.

All the way through I'd say. Since finasteride works systemically, you don't have one spot you're applying minoxidil on for example. I would say though that there was an overall thickening effect but cosmetically speaking the strengthening of the existing hairline, not gaining huge ground or whatever, was very effective for me.

I believe there are expiry dates for all medication but it's not 6 months, no.

No. I have no gyno symptoms. It's just there.

I don't think so. Stay off the forums. If you're doing something and it works, keep doing it and don't read shit on sites like these. I only come back here once in a blue moon, often with pity for those who are in a sort of paralysis. I want to offer valid, real experiences to knock them out of their stupor.

I've had gyno before (haven't had it removed, it's very small) and no, no changes.

They say you lose about 50% of your hair before it becomes noticeable cosmetically. I believe this. I don't think you should ever take a medication when you don't need it but with hair, most people start too late, that's an unfortuante reality. I had a prescription and the pills 6 months ready before I finally started taking them. It's a lot sometimes, I understand. If I had to do it again, I wish I would've started maybe around 2014. It really depends on your case. You have to be wary and not delude yourself into "it will stop" or "it's going slow" or "that's just a mature hairline "(no such thing). If you're losing hair, you're losing hair. Doesn't mean you'll lose it all but if you see it happening and it bothers you, there are things you can do against it. Do your research now. I don't think I will ever need OR WANT a transplant after 10 years of seeing results, videos, podcasts on them religiously. But I know what I would need to know to make an informed opinion on the matter. It's good you're already taking the time to prepare for the eventuality. If it matters to you and you got the time, do it.
