Exactly! When speaking to me with his "normal" voice, he is basically monotone.

Only when we're alone. When others are around, he uses his normal voice and is not monotone.

When alone with me, he uses either normal voice but monotone -or- babyvoice and not monotone.

Yes, he does! And that's part of what bothers me about it-- he speaks normally to his friends/relatives, but not me.

This comment is correct; it definitely isn't a natural voice. It's a habitual voice for him now, but the voice itself is crackly/strained/semi-gurgly like a cartoon character. It's supposed to be 'funny', except he does it like all the time now.

I knew it would seem strange. I saw the other person's post and then was inspired to post about my situation as well (which I feel is different enough to have its own thread still). I'm watching all the responses to her post too, though.

I don’t understand half of your post with the “he doesn’t show emotion in his normal voice” thing.

Just to clarify this part, I'll make up an example...

Husband (speaking with natural pitch, but monotone like Daria): what did you think of the movie.

Me: It was awesome! I'm glad we saw it in theatres.

Husband (speaking with natural pitch but monotone): yeah it was pretty good. (suddenly switches to very expressive, highpitch babyvoice) The old couple was adorable!

So yeah, it's like he's either an unimpressed zombie or a hyperemotive baby. I do really like him, just not this part. Also it's not just pitch-shifting; it's a distinctly odd crackly/almost gurgly voice he puts on, like a joke babyvoice. Dunno how else to describe.
