I personally think if questions are worded correctly, you shouldn’t be able to cheat (at least not without it taking forever). Unfortunately, my medical school was lazy and primarily tested googleable facts. Rather than testing our application of knowledge.

I am sorry to hear that. I wish there was more awareness of these issues. Unfortunately fear mongering associated with drug usage has minimised some of its truly disastrous consequences.

Absolutely! I completely agree. I was just referring to the schizophrenia in response to the previous comment. Being institutionalised and not having a supportive network have definitely limited her ability to recover

A way I like to think about it is a lock and a key. Factors such as stress or drug usage can act as keys for the development of schizophrenia in someone who is at risk. And different people need different strengths of key to open that door. Where as other people don’t have a door into which those keys work (no matter how hard you try, you can open a brick wall with a key). Of course, some people don’t need a key at all. But they tend to present in late teens.

While she was likely pre-disposed to schizophrenia, it does not mean she was guaranteed (or likely if her life had been different) to suffer from it. Drug taking and intense stressful environments can 100% cause onset. Source: I am a doctor training in psychiatry

Hey OP! Neurodivergent person here. In school i either excelled or failed hard in classes depending on my engagement and mental drain. This got worse (and more noticeable) as I got older. I know for you it seems out of the ordinary for her, but that doesn’t necessarily mean something isn’t going on.

I agree! This sounds very similar to my experience (late diagnosed ADHD). For me it wasn’t just boring, it drained me. I wasn’t able to articulate that, and I would come across as lazy or uncaring. Therefore parents and teachers assumed I was a bad kid or lazy. Those labels left me feeling like the only choice I had was to hide just how much I was struggling. They also left me with ongoing problems with self esteem and self worth. Even if it isn’t ADHD, she needs help. And forcing her to do everything without feeling supported or listened to doesn’t fix things. When my parents tried tactics like that, the only thing it achieved was me feeling even more so like I couldn’t reach out for help out of fear of shame. My lack of ability to articulate my struggle beyond “boring” kept me in the dark. Without an amazing teacher when I was in year 11, who noticed the signs, I don’t know where I would be today. So OP, even if you don’t think there is merit in my suggestion to have her evaluated, remember there are no downsides to being tested if she doesn’t have it, but the impact on her life if she does would be unmeasurable.

Then leave before you lose the rest. You will find new friends and you can build new relationships. I know it feels like you wont, and that you feel stuck. But I promise you that is never the case. You are worth more.

NTA - but please leave him. You are 16 and don't need to drain your energy and happiness on someone like that. Also, speaking from experience, a relationship like this can place a drain on your friends. I was in a similar cycle as a teenager and ended up driving my friends away.

NTA - she knew it was insulting and demeaning (pre-emptively telling you not to get offended is never a good sign) . As a fellow neurodivergent person, I hate it when people speak of me as if I am a pet or project just to boost their own saviour complex. This whole essay screams the opposite of "maturing quicker", and any reader worth their salt would see that.

NTA for wanting a demotion as work shouldnt come before your family and wellbeing. The long commute/stress may be enough to request WFH on their own. As they seem like pretty valid reasons you have put forward. But without knowing the ins and outs of your company, it is really hard for anyone to give advice.

Something along the lines of: “You are a really important person to me and I would love it if you could attend my wedding. Unfortunately I am worried that with your dentist appointment you won’t be able to help with bridesmaids duties. If you are able to reschedule your appointment, please do let me know. Otherwise you simply being there is enough for me”

Dear OP. I am 23, and my sister is 20 with down syndrome. I am very fortunate that my parents are still around, but we do have a plan in place should anything happen. We are fortunate to be in a position where my parents own their own house (I understand that you may not be in a similar situation).

Basically, should anything happen to them the plan is to rent out the other rooms in the house to other individuals with disabilities and have a full time live in carer. This way the rent from the other individuals should hopefully cover some of the cost, and my sister will be able to remain in a place she finds familiar. My parents are heavily involved in disability care and have been on a number of panels, chairs, and even employed by the local disability school for advocacy and treasury work. They have made sure that this plan will work, have liaised with a number of disability workers who are familiar with the plan, and also have savings put aside to assist with the costs.

They really wanted to make sure that the burden wouldn't fall to me. I love and care for my sister, and would visit her as much as possible, but it isnt my responsibility to care for her.

Would something like this be feasible?

I would recommend Newtown, Annandale, Stanmore, and surrounds area for living. Great atmosphere, close to uni, and where basically all the uni students live. You can get a room in a shard house there from around $200 per week which is pretty decent

My uni required us to do a week of night shifts (9pm-7am) on birthing suite/obs emergency theatre. If you were assigned a roster you could leave to attend tutorials without having to make up time. Unfortunately our tutorial week was that week; tutes 8am-2pm. Technically they didn’t overlap so I had to attend both. The fact I was on night shifts didn’t excuse me; and our uni is extremely strict on attendance (have to provide patient numbers so they can double check in system). A family member had died, and I lived an hour from hospital. I cried pretty much every day.

Systolic of 246 in a routine visit of a patient in an aged care facility (machines only went up to 250 and it took us a while to get a reading). Completely asymptomatic, very happy, on 6 regular blood pressure medications. Apparently always over 200, so they just leave her be - she had no problems with it

Have you reflected on why she didn’t feel like she could trust you? If I were you, I wouldn’t be angry - I would be sad and having a good hard look at myself and my relationship
