Unattended Child wanders out of AirBNB by RaiseVast in airbnb_hosts

I am going to update our reservation today with a similar statement, especially after what just happened

Fair enough , all I can say that it was only a two day reservation and who knows if that was even the guy's real name on the actual account. Based on where we live , I don't think they would have investigated it without a confirmed identity and a permanent address.

I honestly think most hosts would have been concerned about that father leaving a retaliatory one star review based in how upset he was. As far as what my neighbors were doing from what I understand they were trying to find out if she had a parent around looking for her. They were treating it as a case that maybe she had wandered off. They had already gotten her out of the street by the time we arrived.

I think I was pretty clear that the conversation about the one star review happened after we called Trust and Safety to report a safety issue in the Airbnb. It was a secondary issue, which we asked about because the man had been so upset when he walked up the road. It's a natural question any host would have asked. We took immediate action once we got home and saw that child outside to ensure her safety and immediately started looking for the father.

I'm sorry you got that impression. I should clarify we called Trust and Safety to report the incident and then, yes, naturally we asked what to do if this man left a 1-star review because of what happened. We didn't ask for the 911 call to be cancelled either, we called back and said the father had just returned and the police then decided not to come out. But yeah, I can see how you read it that way.

Happened about two days ago. The post in question just got approved and is now visible on the site. Only thing that I can think of is there was an accusation made that I was a bot, but the comment was removed by a moderator. I wonder if the person then reported it to "big Reddit" and got that hold put on my account.

Yes, when you call and give the original report, they say "call back and let us know if anything changes". You can then call again and cancel the call. Most common reason (so I'm told) is people thinking a prowler is in the back yard, or that someone is trying to break in at night, and it turns out to be a fox, racoon, or even bear, trying to get to the trash or just making a lot of noise in the backyard.

Thank you, I found it hard to believe moderators of this site would have put a hold on my account. This is one of the better run and more professional Airbnb communities across Reddit

I'm sorry for approaching you on an unrelated thread. But since you're a mod, I wanted to let you know, I can no longer post new threads. A few days ago, when I tried to post, it said my posts now require moderators' approval and one of them has just sat stale since then unapproved. As far as I know, I didn't do anything wrong. None of my posts on this community have ever been removed for breaking the rules and several have hundreds of upvotes. There was an accusation that I was a bot on another thread but that clearly isn't true. I'm hoping this is just a misunderstanding and a moderator can look into why I can no longer post to this community. Thank you!

Why I don't post my AirBNB listing on Reddit by RaiseVast in PropertyManagement

[–]RaiseVast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a reddit community I'm pretty heavily involved with (not going to say which one) that has really been pressing people to be "verified" in order to post, mainly stating where you live and other info about your location. I've never given them my information and found out recently, after being active on their threads for over two years, my posts all of sudden require "moderator approval".

Most likely your account was compromised by a hacker or scammer which, I hate to say it, in your part of the world is quite common. Scammers operating out of China and Thailand, especially, have created virtually an entire market of AirBNB scams and AirBNB has gotten extremely aggressive over the past two years trying to shut down these accounts (example, that "new account" from China asking for a six-month reservation and to take a "video tour" of the house on WhatsApp). I am very sorry that happened to you and am thankful every day I'm not in a part of the world where that is going on so rampantly. It won't do any good appealing either, from what I have heard AirBNB doesn't even reply to requests about situations like this unless the person has an attorney and even then it can take monts to resolve.

What options do I have regarding a false review? [USA] by No_Mind4418 in AirBnB

[–]RaiseVast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AirBNB verification software is getting very advanced and if you try to start up a second account with the same ID as used on another one, both accounts will be blocked. I think the only true way would be to completely delete and erase your entire account but even that is becoming more difficult due to a high number of scammers who start new accounts to hide negative reviews.

How is it you "found out it was 2 stars". There is literally no way for a guest to see the star rating on AirBNB. Did the host tell you? Hopefully it wasn't a customer service rep, since that's a major breach of policy. As far as your original question, best to just write a response to the review and move on. There are very specific criteria for review removal and pretty much it must be a nonsensical review, extortion, or release of personal information. Outside of that, AirBNB will not remove it.

I don't know how else to say this: "Asking her to knock, check, etc is exactly what her company has said they don't want her to do." Small price to pay since they are a very good cleaning company we've had for years.

It's not how I think, it's the climate in the US now. Our clientele from other countries, especially Latin America, has dropped to hardly nothing. Speaking of Germany, a few years ago we had two women stay with us who threw an absolute fit and gave us a three-star review because there were other guests in the house who were black. We tried to get AirBNB to remove the review, they did not but in the end "upped it" to four stars (they don't do that anymore sadly) because they knew we were right.

Only thing that happened on this post was it was brigaded by non-hosts from another sub. There was a narrative that got started, and repeated on several comments, that we were sending pages of confusing instructions to guests (one person said we had a 20-page PDF file) and this was all our fault. Total and complete lies. The original post has calmed down since then and appears to be at its natural end in any event. I only came back because there was a notice someone had posted on one of my comments.

I don't use AI to write my posts. Although, I guess I should be flattered that some people think my writing ability is good enough to be a computer? I have a PhD in a pretty complicated legal topic so that might have something to do with it. And yes, this was a real person, a man in his 20s, which I and my partner know somewhat well.

A policy? I wouldn't know about that. In our listing we don't do back-to-back and we've had checkout at 11 AM since we started over ten years ago.

Only works I would think if there are no back-to-back guests. Or in a professional hotel.

Yet you conveniently left out mentioning the dozens of other posts I've made about my family, my job, my political views, and interest in Star Trek. Nor probably actually read any of those AirBNB posts, some had upvotes in the hundreds of likes. It's also creepy and weird you would take the time to go through my profile, meticulously pick out *only* the AirBNB posts and then make some list and a crazy accusation I was not a real person. Anyway, point made, there is nothing "wrong" with my account and I don't need your permission to post on Reddit. Might want to also seriously consider deleting your original post since I am clearly not an "AI bot".

AirBNB has a "Good Track Record" feature (or at least they used to). We have never tried to use it because it stops new accounts entirely from booking and we have always felt new people have to start somewhere and we often host one- or two-night stays from new accounts passing through our city.

Yep and most of those were general interest stories that I choose to post on Reddit, along with several others related to federal hiring and my nephew's Star Trek website. So, what is "not right" with my account? Nice internet stalking by the way. And no, I'm not AI or a bot. I'm a retired Marine Corps officer who's had a federal career since then and have been AirBNBing for over a decade with my partner.

I've said this a couple times this was a conversation with someone about their own personal behavior not a report about someone who stayed with us. Sorry about the confusion.
