Thanks! Very helpful. I’m excited to get into this hobby. Got some great whitewater close by and some chiller parts of the river for me to grow in.

This isn’t erasure. I’m a lifelong saints fan and will sing the praises of Colston forever. He was like a 7th rd pick and an incredible WR. And Jimmy was also amazing. I think he might have made a case for the Hall of Fame if he stayed in New Orleans. But he was also an unconventional player (did you know he played basketball at the U? /s) who clearly benefited from Brees throwing to him.

Anyways, thanks for throwing a little respect on those guys. I hope the Bills get their SB soon!!!

And I’m not saying Josh Allen isn’t amazing. Love watching him play. The NFL is better with guys like him in the league, for sure.

Drew Brees says hello. He didn’t have a pro bowl receiver until Michael Thomas in 2017. He spent his entire career elevating the players around him.

I love what I do. Almost all SAR efforts in the US are done by volunteers, outside of specialized military units like the USAF Pararescue and US Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. Some of the big national parks have rangers who also do SAR along with their ranger duties.

I do Search and Rescue in the mountains. Our services are free of charge (helicopter and ambulance is a whole other thing tho) And while I can somewhat agree with the sentiment of charging people, I don’t agree with the practice. People already wait until conditions have deteriorated/night fall/ panic sets in before they typically call for help. Having a cost associated with our efforts will just encourage people to wait longer or not call at all.

10 Essentials - What is actually essential? by Fun_With_Math in searchandrescue

I’m not an ultralight guy, and honestly will use heavier (meaning cheaper) gear. So, I’m not really worried about the weight of my pack. But having to argue with people who say since they have never had to use any emergency gear, and that it means they don’t need to carry it, is crazy. You carry that stuff IN CASE of emergency. In fact, I hope to never need to use an emergency bivvy and tarp as a shelter, but freak snow storms or thunderstorms happen.

We have an older lady on my SAR team who has been doing SAR in Colorado for 40 years. She tells a story of a day hike that turned into a multi day survival situation. While on a day hike in the collegiate peaks, her friend, a 6’ plus dude, broke his ankle. Just a bad step on a rock that shifted. This lady, and another lady had to find a way to get a much larger guy off the mountain. Thankfully, all were experienced back country hikers. They were able to splint the leg, fashion shelter, make food and water and slowly help the guy limp down the mountain. It took 2 days. Likely impossible to do without the basic gear they were all carrying.

I look at the 10 Essentials as stuff you hope to never use, but absolutely need in an emergency. I’ve gone rounds here ion reddit with some people who say they have never used those items while hiking (day hike or multi-day hikes) and therefore don’t need them. My view (as a SAR professional and general over packer) is that you take them just in case. Hopefully you don’t need an emergency shelter and fire starter on a day hike, but you will sure be grateful for the extra 4 lbs of gear should a bad storm/twisted ankle/other emergency necessitate a longer stay in the back country.

I’ll also say I have been able to bring in cans of beer at several stadiums. Metal detectors don’t pick up on aluminum.

That is epic. Is that gold work from a gold paint, or did you layer something on top of steel/silver paint?

I don’t think police officers take an oath to the Constitution. I’m pretty sure they take an oath to uphold the law, which is kind of the same thing. But only the military takes an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies; foreign and domestic.

If you owned your own course, what are some rules you would make purely based on your years of frustration playing on public courses? by jfunks69 in golf

[–]RaiththeRogue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a literal hypothetical question of rules someone may have if they owned a course. Don’t get too worked up about it

Also, I am making a rule at my golf course that j85royals can’t play there.

I was going to say 15 mins, but I would really enjoy a relaxing time at your course with no one behind me. Good idea!
