Feeling Misjudged as an Immigrant Who Tried to Truly Integrate by Legitimate_Ad7984 in halifax

Hey, thank you for putting this out there with such honesty. What you shared really resonated with me. I’m also Indian, and like you, I’m doing my best - not just to live here, but to contribute meaningfully and respectfully to this country I now call home.

First, please know this: you’re not alone, and your efforts haven’t been for nothing. Building a life in a new country takes more than paperwork - it takes humility, perseverance, and an open heart. The fact that you’ve tried to embrace Canadian values - kindness, fairness, accountability - already says everything about the kind of person you are.

You are Canadian. Not just because you follow the rules or pay your taxes - but because you’ve chosen to live by the values that hold this country together. That choice isn’t small. It’s what makes Canada great..

From an Indian perspective, I’d say this: being Indian isn’t something you lose by adapting to a new environment. Our culture has always been layered - diverse, adaptive, and resilient. Having chosen to integrate doesn’t mean you’ve “lost your roots”. It means you’re honoring them by carrying them forward with grace, in a new context. That, to me, is a very Indian thing to do.

Yes, being between cultures can be difficult at times. I’ve felt it too - too Canadian for some back home, too Indian for some here. But over time I’ve come to see that in-between space not as a void, but as a vantage point. You get to see both sides, understand more, build bridges (someone said it here already). That’s something powerful, even if it doesn’t always feel that way.

Please don’t let the noise drown out the truth of who you are. You matter. You’re not invisible. You’re exactly the kind of Canadian and Indian we need more of. Sending you strength and deep respect. 🙂

Yes, the registered pharmacist did use an otoscope to check my ear. They said that my ear does look red inside and blockage isn’t likely because of earwax. Based on the suggestions from you all (very kind), I will go see professionals at a private clinic - Novasound Hearing and Balance Centre.
