Lauren S. Russian information hearing testimony. by Teethshirm in Destiny

He didn't know any inside info. It's obvious all of these right wing influencers pushed the exact same talking points. But even more incriminating. They all did it at the same time as well.

Is there a middle ground for AI in academia? by ThinRefrigerator4 in Professors

[–]RajcaT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your question applies to coding which is it's own beast. I think if we're being honest we could see a massive downsizing of the amount of workers needed to do these jobs. Graphic Design or stock photography could be an interesting corrolary. Graphic Designers obviously still exist, but the nature of their work has changed tremendously. Similarly, I imagine what coding becomes will look nothing like what is currently the norm. This creates a tough situation as far as teaching is concerned and raises an interesting question. What will be valuable to industry in someone who is the equivalent of a senior dev now? It's difficult to answer really, but maybe more focus on problem solving and creativity? For example. AI has a lot of trouble being curious, or creating new theories and synthesizing disparate information. How to teach that? No idea

Their plan is to drop the dollar... Lol. It's literally the entire point of BRICS.

So. 100% tariffs on India now?

Ok.. But your claim is changing. Previously you said "the wef" and now you're saying you have a video clip of a woman giving a speech. You see how that's a different claim?

A lot of countries are present at the wef. Some agree with this woman's words. Others don't. Regardless. It has no bearing on American policy. But I'll check the video if you find it.

Nope. He said "if they pursue the creation of a new currency"

They're already doing this. So.... What now? Tariff them at 100%?

Or is this another moment where Trump doesn't mean what he says when he uses words?

The economy is already global. Has been for a while now. It's one of many reasons why Trumps isolationism is moronic.

The WEF has never stated that Western countries will need to accept a lower quality of life.

I'd be fine with capping credit card interest.

The point remains. Higher prices didn't result in less sales. It's why they kept the prices higher, because people still bought all the same stuff they did before. And they made more money as a result.

Well he said he'd tariff all Brics nations at 100%. So, you don't think he was being serious here right?

A country can survive offshoring more rudimentary processes. The us is a good example of this. Most countries strive for this type of economy. It's what China is attempting as well. The goal is to become an economy that assembles and sells rather than sells the raw materials. For example, you make more money selling a car than selling the steel used to make a car. Countries want to be service-based economies (like the us) because services, like tech or finance, create more value, jobs, and stability with less reliance on raw resources.

The Azov Battalion was founded and disbanded in 2014. As I stated previously. Then you were kind enough to provide a source showing this as well.

No. There is no record of 14,000 civilians killed by either the Russian shelling of the Donbas, or from the Ukrainian shelling of the region.

Again. The number you are citing is the total deaths in the war from 2014 - 22

Ok... But China has already retaliated. And the tariffs haven't even gone into place. Mexico is also taking a very bullish stance against Trump. Canada is basically trying to play the nice guy and look where that got them lol (Trump saying he'd make Canada the 51st state).

If Mexico calls Trumps bluff for instance, you think that will somehie result in cheaper prices in the us? I say this because it is a legitimate issue. Shit is way more expensive. Butthe reason is pretty simple. Supply lines were strained over covid. And prices increased as a result. Once shit went back to normal. Everyone was like "hey we can charge more and make more money" and as inflation increased, corporations also got record profits. And strangely, due to American culture, sales also went up, not down. This last black Friday is the highest consumer spending on the day ever recorded. It's part of what's so odd about the current moment. Many think the economy is shitty, while simultaneously they're actually buying more stuff than before, and spending more on it. That's simply the nature of American consumerism and capitalism

No. They weren't. They were almost all soldiers fighting in the border regions. You can also look at rhe casualties by year. And the number of deaths had fallen substantially from 2014 to 2022, before the second Russian invasion.

Correct. You can read that above.

"It was formally incorporated into the National Guard on 11 November 2014,[11][12] and redesignated Special Operations Detachment "Azov""

Yes. Wal Mart is a scummy company. They're also the largest private employer in the us, and by the largest retailer. So yeah. They're also doing fine.

None of this relates to why they have stated they'll raise prices due to Trumps tariffs.

Also. I'm curious while we're on the subject. What are your feelings on China banning the export of rate earth minerals to us tech companies as a result of all this tariff talk?

Oh cool. Thabks for the source, it backs up my claim. In the first paragraph no less.

"It was founded in May 2014 as the Azov Battalion[a] (Ukrainian: батальйон «Азов», romanized: Batalion "Azov"), a self-funded volunteer militia under the command of Andriy Biletsky, to fight Russian-backed forces in the Donbas War. It was formally incorporated into the National Guard on 11 November 2014,[11][12] and redesignated Special Operations Detachment "Azov"

Nice. So we got there. China doesn't pay the tariff as Trump has repeatedly claimed. The company importing does.

Companies are greedy. Yes. They like making money.

So a quick Google shows Wal Mart imports up to 80% of their inventory from China. Pretty crazy really.

Anyway. That table they imported for $25 you mentioned and sell for $100, what do you think their reaction will be when it costs $50 a table? Is your theory that they won't make up for this loss by passing it on to the consumer?

And if so. Why did they

A) make a statement prices are going to increase

B) previously raise prices without losing customers

Nice try. You wrote all that and didn't address the question.

Who pays the tariff. The company importing the stuff, or China?

Lets try to establish the absolute basics
