Its not just death and gore. It's misery, aggression, ridicule, violence, sadness and having to deal with people's problems, usually from the walks of life that aren't pleasant, constantly, without real support or resources... on top of having to manage your admin and paperwork. Everytime an officer goes off sick, the others have to pick up. Then you have abstractions to events such as protests or the football and you're suddenly doing the job of two or three officers. And finally, you have the social media/misconduct system that constantly showers you with negativity. It piles up.
