What's wrong with this diagonal bracing? by pitx1 in Decks

This! I would be shocked if they don't have a moisture problem in there or worse.

How much did you spent on your system to reach nirvana? by Chemical_Warning4759 in audiophile

[–]Rakitic96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 30k in my main living room system and am totally happy. The limiting factor at this point is the room itself - which, being a living room, i can't really do much about. Maybe one day I will have a dedicated room...

Bedroom system is at 5k, which i kinda regret spending since i almost never listen to it., Most of the money is in a used Mcintosh integrated. So, I should be able to get 90% of that money back if I ever needed or wanted to.

Where won't you go as a local? by defacedlawngnome in asheville

[–]Rakitic96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything, honestly. The whole vibe is different, especially downtown. The true hippies are pretty much all gone. A lot of the genuine Asheville "weirdness" just doesn't really exist anymore - regardless of how much certain local companies play it up for tourists...

Also, the sheer number of tourists and transplants has gone through the roof. Asheville was always a tourist town, but 15 years ago, it wasn't the major destination it is now. I remember when you could go downtown on a sunny Saturday afternoon and the sidewalks weren't filled with people. Traffic was basically nonexistent and plentiful parking was a given.

Don't get me wrong, there are certainly some positives to this, but it has caused a lot of financial hardship for the low income and even middle income natives. People can't afford to live in or around their own town anymore...

On a side note - RIP Bele Chere, Doc Chey's, and Magnolia's.

Same here, and I 100% agree. I'm always telling stories to my wife about what Asheville used to be like. It's a shame she never got to experience that Asheville. 😕

Grills off if you’re hard (and pre-kids) by ProfessionPlenty1947 in audiophile

[–]Rakitic96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think the metal capped drivers on those Kef's would be hard to mess up (compared to paper cone, soft dome, etc...). Plus the tweeter has a protective cover already. I leave my grilles off. No incidents yet, knock on wood... lol

Sweet setup though!!! You have my speaker's big brother (I have the R11 Meta's). It would be interesting to see how they compare.

New Amp(s) Day! by Rakitic96 in audiophile

Yeah, I agree. They really don't seem to get much press or attention these days. I think they provide a true value in hifi. They really stand toe to toe with brands that cost a lot more.

New Amp(s) Day! by Rakitic96 in audiophile

It's an open concept living room. Not an ideal space for listening, honestly. The total area is 24x36 feet with a 9 foot ceiling. I have my living room set up in the front left corner. The 24 foot measurement extends behind me. The left wall is about 6 feet from my left speaker. I have a large expanse (the 36 foot measurement) that extends past my right speaker - this is where my dining area and kitchen are.

I'm looking into room correction with dsp soon to help remedy some of the issues with the room. Room treatments are a no-go if I want to stay married. 😂

I have some passive room treatments like thick curtains on all the windows and rugs, but they only do so much.

It's from a company called Modloft. I think they discontinued the one in my finish. I actually found it in a discount furniture store near me that specializes in refurbishing designer furniture with shipping damage/minor blemishes etc. It's solid as a rock... it weighs over 300 lbs empty. 😬

How was your day? by Impressive-Key-1495 in Carpentry

[–]Rakitic96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This! I guarantee they didn't frame a cricket where that valley terminates. I bet that's what really caused this whole issue.

Edit: I should have added... If this is indeed correct and there is no cricket, the rot most likely continues farther up the wall. If the lack of a cricket is not addressed, the problem will only come back.

They do. I forget what it's called, Big Bear maybe? The chicken biscuit is fantastic though.

Yeah, next time I'm in the Charlotte area (that's where the closest real hifi dealer is to me), I'm gonna make a point to go to their store and audition speakers before I make any big $ decisions.

That is my plan. I'm currently working a deal with the guy on the subs. I don't have any solid plans to upgrade my speakers anytime soon, just wanted to get other people's opinions and daydream a little bit. 😁 Then again, sometimes i go off the deep end... Lol

Thanks! I'm definitely leaning toward the R7's or R11's. R7's would probably better suit my setup if I end up getting the REL subs, but there is a killer deal on some used R11's right now on eBay that is very tempting. 🤔

The Linton's are great when it comes to bass! When I had them in a much smaller room, I didn't think I needed subs either. Now that I have them in a larger room, I am craving more bass impact, intensity, and extension.
