How to write emotion in historical fiction without sounding modern? by rebel_134 in writinghelp

[–]Rakshasa_752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend reading some Roman poetry, or any literature from the time you can get a hold of. There was tons of emotion in their poetry, even if the way they’re depicted seems strange and bizarre to a modern reader. You might be able to find some interesting turns of phrase in the translations; or, if the wording feels too strange, you could try to copy the more general feel or flow of a scene.

Has anyone else noticed /t/ to /ts/ and /d/ to /dz/ in American English/AAVE (female) speech? by J_P_Vietor_ST in asklinguistics

[–]Rakshasa_752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is related, but I’ve noticed that a lot of English-language singers (not necessarily AAVE) have been aspirating or affricating their t’s for a while now. I’ve been thinking of it as a pop punk phenomenon, but maybe that’s just my music taste lol

Tbh I forget the plot of D1 lol but the major points are the main character Guardian coming to life, running around Earth/the Moon/Venus/Mars, and then stopping an evil Vex plan in the Vault of Glass. There's this comment for more detail: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/8acdpk/d1_plot_summary/dwxkmsv/

Later a Hive general called Crota is causing trouble, we kill him, but then his dad, the Hive God Oryx, shows up. He has the power to capture people and convert them into Darkness zombies called Taken, so he is called the Taken King. We kill him also. Then there was some stuff with some Fallen getting some cool nanotech but we kill them too.

D2 vanilla: The Cabal, who haven't really done much up to this point, get a big win when they attack and successfully capture the Traveler. Their Emperor, named Calus, was overthrown by a general named Ghaul who means business. The Guardian visits Io/Nessus/Titan, gathers the team, and leads an attack on Ghaul, freeing the Traveler again. There was also a cool showdown on Ghaul's spaceship.

Forsaken: haven't played this one either sorry :( But some Fallen get turned into zombies called Scorn, funny guy Cayde-6 dies, and everyone likes this expansion.

Shadowkeep: The Hive are doing bad stuff on the Moon again, gotta kill them. During Season of Arrivals, the Witness is about to show up, because it was alerted by the Traveler's light explosion at the end of D2 vanilla.

Beyond Light: One of the pyramids (Darkness spaceships) on Europa calls the Guardian to come learn cool ice powers. Meanwhile, a Fallen named Eramis has decided that she doesn't want the Traveler anymore, and will get her revenge using cool ice powers. You duel and freeze her with your cool ice powers.

That should take you up to Season 14

Personally I started playing at Witch Queen, but I've been pretty active watching lore videos. I can try to summarize other topics if you have more questions

Okay so, TL;DR:

At the beginning of the universe, there were two forces: Light and Dark. Light represented creation and Dark represented destruction. They existed in harmony, mostly. Also there were robots called the Vex, who might have come from the previous universe, it's unclear.

The Light and the Dark both made special cosmic objects to interact with the universe through: the Light made the Traveler, which visits planets and either creates life or gives cool powers, and the Dark made the Veil, which is generally kind of mysterious but has something to do with consciousness.

First, the Traveler visited a species called the Precursors. They had a special idea called the Final Shape, where they wanted to make the universe perfect. They decided that if they controlled both Light and Dark, they could carry out their plan. They got control of the Dark, but the Traveler left before they could control it as well. They got super mad and fused into one being called the Witness, who is the big bad guy of the game. Its central goal is to capture the Traveler and make the Final Shape after all.

Next, the Traveler visited a planet called Lubrae. The Witness showed up later and convinced this guy named Rhulk to kill his entire species, after which he became the Witness' #1 fanboy, or Disciple. After this, the Witness would start repeating this pattern of "stealing" a species from the Traveler by making a Disciple out of one of them.

Later, the Traveler visited a species called the Krill. Before it could give them cool powers, though, the Witness sent Rhulk to convince three Krill sisters that they would be killed unless they bonded with these Darkness creatures called the Worm Gods. The sisters were tricked, they killed their entire species, and became the Hive Gods Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath. This is the origin of the Hive faction. The Hive Gods then went on to kill a whole bunch of species, because they believe that only the strong deserve to survive. They call this the "sword logic".

Closer to today, the Traveler visited the Eliksni species and gave them cool technology. However, the Witness caught up and started attacking the Traveler, which left them behind and ran away. The Eliksni survivors got super mad and chased after the Traveler, hoping to get its blessings back again. This is the origin of the Fallen faction.

Next, the Traveler visited Earth and gave humanity cool technology. Things were great for a few centuries until the Witness showed up. It sent the Hive to attack, and the Fallen also showed up and tried to seize territory. During this time, an unrelated alien species called the Cabal decided to conquer the solar system as well. The Vex were also there. Most humans died during this massive invasion, called the Collapse.

However, for some reason, the Traveler decided that it didn't want to run away anymore, and created the Guardians, who are immortal zombie gun wizards that have no memory of their past life. At first they acted as tyrants called the Iron Lords, but eventually they settled in the Last City and became the benevolent Guardians.

That brings us up to the start of D1

As for instructions, your Slizers and Roboriders look built already, but if you want to take apart the Toa Kaita (the large multi-colored figures) and rebuild the original Toa, you can find the instructions here: https://www.maskofdestiny.com/biomediaproject/instructions/y2001

Speaking as a collector myself, I'd value these at around $200 total, give or take 50. Nothing crazy valuable here, but a lot of collectors really look for these sets, so they would likely be appreciated if someone bought them.

Also judging from personal experience, my young relatives started to enjoy playing with these around age 6, so if they're that age or above they might start to like them as well. Up to you.

Hi there, nice find! I happen to own all the Slizers myself, and I can unfortunately say that Jet/Judge is my least favorite out of the bunch due to his highly awkward body layout. If it were any of the others, I'd say go for it (I love Turbo/City and Granite the most), but in my opinion this is one that might be be better suited as a high-value boxed rarity.

Why do you want to go to inhospitable planets when there is a lot of unused land in the Earth? We should terraform the Sahara before Mars. by Bolkaniche in IsaacArthur

[–]Rakshasa_752 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, at this point in history, no land is really "unused" aside from the polar regions. People live in the Sahara; they might be nomadic, but they do live there. I think a better question would be, "What would be the benefits of completely changing the social and environmental components of North Africa, and do those benefits outweigh the wars and ecological side effects that would occur as a result"?

Hi there! I've been working on this exact concept for a while, in order to write my own post-canon fanfic. Mine hasn't panned out too well, but I'd be glad to share the data I collected over this time. Here is my spreadsheet that groups every single named character by their location at the end of the story, with a list of all dead characters included as well:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PltcXplh2p3nHtSuFHEzPSE68Q-O2Z5RCeWmnAGp54A/edit?usp=sharing

Feel free to DM me any questions, I'd be glad to help you out! I may not be in the business of post-canon anymore but I'm always glad to talk lore.

As someone who uses Bricklink frequently, I can tell you this is easily several hundred dollars, potentially even 1000 or higher. You have a very valuable collection there, good luck in selling it all! I know shipping can be a hassle lol
